@kevie @theplentynet I'm a little surprised that none of this has been licensed to be made into a TV series or movie... but also, I'm quite happy it's not, because the books are super.

Been (slowly!) working my way through the Farseer Trilogy of books and really love diving in to the world that Robin Hobb (Megan Lindholm) created. 🐺 ⚔️
⚠️ No spoilers, please! I'm not done reading yet. 📚️
BUT, on seeking out a wiki to read up a little more on the Realm of the Elderlings, was pleased to see that @theplentynet have a Mastodon account too. 💪

L'Assassin royal, tome 5 : La voie magique
Book review: The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
I loved Hobbs beautiful and introspective writing style; her world and character building; and her depiction of themes such as loneliness, otherness and powerlessness. Most of all, I loved the depiction of the interconnectedness of all life through the magical Wit bond between the protagonist and the wolf. All in all highly recommended.

Robin Hobb -
- Fool's Errand
- Golden Fool
- Fool's Fate
a.k.a. the Tawny Man trilogyI'm part way through the Elderlings series, of which this is one segment. In a way, this trilogy is a bit like one giant book, because the second and third books each pick up where the previous one left off.
I felt this was the best set so far, as a set. They're beautifully paced: always something unfolding, never rushed.
I'd still recommend starting from the start of the series, because this builds upon the previous books - especially upon the first trilogy.

Oooh, nyt en tiedä miten päin pyörisin. Näyttää siltä, että Otava jatkaa Robin Hobbin suomentamista. Ainakin nettikirjakauppoihin on ilmestynyt 22.10.26 julkaistava Sadekorven kronikoitten eka osa Lohikäärmeenvartija, eli The Rain Wild Chroniclesin The Dragon Keeperin suomennos. Ilmeisesti Elolaivat myi kelvollisesti, joten saadaan jatkoa. Milloin kustantajien syksyn katalogit ilmestyy? #kirjamastodon #kirjafedi #RobinHobb #fantasia

Reading Ship of Destiny had been slow, so I'm only about halfway through. I got to the part where Selden is speaking to Tintaglia as she arrives to Bingtown and I can't help but think that Hobbs' dragons are like cats and how I'd imagine cats would like us to talk to them if they could tell us their preference.
"Oh magnificent one, your fur shines like the moon and the sun, your form is grace and beauty incarnate! Please bestow us the honour of doing your bidding in cleaning your toilet sand."

Mad Ship made me feel hopeful for this trilogy, but Ship of Destiny is dragging again and full of shitty entitled men as the main source of threat. My least favourite trope! The only correct amount of shitty entitled men in a series is one, and that only if they're killed by a slightly deranged ferret in the final book.
Wintrow is at least still interesting in all his tragic misery, whereas Althea and Brashen just make me want to skip all the parts they're in.
I even enjoyed Malta's parts before a shitty, entitled man happened. :'(

420 of 445 hours of audiobook listening in to the entirety of #RobinHobb's Realm Of The Elderlings Trilogies.
(Farseer, Live Ship Traders, Tawny Man, Rainwild Chonicles, Fitz and The Fool)
The narrator for the Fitz and The Fool trilogy has consistently said 'Live Ship' as 'liv ship' not 'lIve ship' over a hundred times. If I had taken a shot a time in the last 5 chapters alone I'd be dead.
If you can be correct with 'Aslevjal' you can manage Live Ship. It's not like it makes sense the other way.
Aside from that, great narration work all round, I love the series and it's as fun listening as it was reading.
Passing character accent notes between trilogies would have been cool, but trad pub doesn't have a handle on narrator consistency yet (still?), and a pronunciation guide. And giving the narrator a pronunciation guide.

ROYAL ASSASSIN (1997)
Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 30" x 23"Over the years, fans have asked why I depicted Fitz wielding a sword on the cover when his weapon of choice throughout the book was an axe. 1/4

Finally finished The Mad Ship! It was an easier read than Ship of Magic, probably at least partly because the edition had a bigger front, but moreso because everything wasn't so damn shitty for the characters all the time.
There's so many POV characters that I don't really feel attached to any of them, and I don't really agree with how some of the character arcs were done, just didn't feel genuine, but I look forward to reading what happens in the Ship of Destiny!

Finished the first book of the Farseer Trilogy. Absolutely brilliant. Definitely a fantasy series I’ll be eager to finish. 😊

I saw a recommendation from Robin Hobb about the first book of the Murderbot series by @marthawells yesterday and since I was between books I jumped right in.
Having read the first one I am excited to keep going. Funniest sci-fi I've read in years.

Some people cite J.R.R. Tolkien as the opposite of George R.R. Martin when it comes to finishing books. Which is funny if you actually know anything about Tolkien.
These people mistakenly think that Lord of the Rings is a trilogy just because it often gets printed in three volumes. LOTR is of course the sequel to The Hobbit and there were seventeen years between these publications.
The rest of Tolkien's Middle Earth books were published after his death, many in a series appropriately titled Unfinished Tales.
If you actually want an example of an author of a fantasy series with an impressive output then Robin Hobb should be on top of the list. Between 1995 and 2017 she published 16 books in her Realm of the Elderlings series.

@germ I found your profile through Stephen King and Robin Hobb hashtags! I just recently binge-read most of Robin Hobb's books and they are phenomenal. I must read the Fitz and the Fool trilogy and Rain Wild Chronicles next.

Fitz and the Fool [Omnibus] - #RobinHobb
> Vengeance took no account of innocence or right. It was the chain that bound horrific events together, that decreed that one awful act must beget another worse one that would lead to yet a third. It came to me, slowly, that this chain would never end.
-
@beko fun OnThisDay - currently right in the middle of The Farseer trilogy again after finishing The Rain Wild Chronicles xD

Fitz and the Fool [Omnibus] - #RobinHobb
> Worrying doesn’t solve anything. I know that. In one way I know it but in another it seems wrong. It seems as if I don’t think about all the things that hurt, all the things I’ve done wrong, then I don’t really care.
-
Fitz and the Fool [Omnibus] - #RobinHobb
> ‘I will always take your part, Bee. Right or wrong. That is why you must always take care to be right, lest you make your father a fool.’
-
And on:
> And when I became sad, I was prone to wallow in grief, piling up my woes and sprawling on them like a dragon on a hoard.
-
Later:
> I lived my grief; I slept mourning and ate sorrow and drank tears.

> Still he ran to us, as if he could run back to a time when it wasn’t already too late.
