  3. John Sturges – Die glorreichen Sieben (1960)

(ARTE)

  9. So, it's a Roger Corman film which means there are certain things we can expect, with cheap and reusing stock or other footage extensively being the main ones. That said, his earlier films often had some good ideas, good philosophies, and good politics buried in there, and this looks like it might hold to that already with the teenage (ahem) Robert Vaughn questioning his caveman life.

  10. #TheManFromUNCLE 14 (1964) - 9/10
    Delightful episode.

    1️⃣ And what a cast! #DavidMcCallum, #WilliamShatner, #LeonardNimoy, #RobertVaughn.

2️⃣ It plays like a light-hearted episode of #MissionImpossible and it gets very clever towards the end.

3️⃣ According to #IMDb users, this is the 2nd best episode of the series.

  11. #RIP DAVID McCALLUM (1933–1923)

Best remembered for the 1960s TV series THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., costarring #RobertVaughn.

A few of the longer episodes became big-screen releases (esp. outside the US), notably THE SPY IN THE GREEN HAT, costarring #JanetLeigh, #JackPalance & #JoanBlondell.

Decades after UNCLE, McCallum became a regular in the series #NCIS.

At one point, he was married to #JillIreland.

  16. Summer is a good time for kids to learn new things.

So my 15yo & I sat down and watched a 1967 #FiringLine in which #WilliamFBuckleyJr and #RobertVaughn debated American involvement in the Vietnam War.

We paused periodically for questions and discussion. This clip was the highlight that got me up on my feet clapping.

  19. Bullitt, a ground-breaking movie in 1968 not just for the car chase but for its gritty realistic feel. Steve McQueen's performance redefined the concept of the movie cop, and Bullitt redefined the cop movie. Great film.

  20. Battle Beyond the Stars, made by Roger Corman’s New World Pictures in 1980, is Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai set in space.

One of the best of the post-Star Wars space operas. Proof that talent and imagination count more than money when it comes to making movies. Great fun.
