I assume that this is not neceserrily a helpful thought for people with automimmune diseases, but maybe it is. Allegedly (I have not searched for primary sources for this and am just trusting Ropbert Sapolski in his Podcast with this) there is an eveolutionary connection between the Black Plague and autoimmune diseases. The claim here is that some genetic selection has happend by the Black Plague where some genetic combinations where "immune" to it or at least less likely to get infected or die from it and these genetic strains that are good for avoiding the Black Plague come with the side effect that they do increase the likelyhood of autoimmunic diseases. Of course, that is a wild claim, difficult to proof, and like everything in science just a theory that might be wrong - but assuming it might be correct: It makes me feel like sending a message to everyone with an autoimunic disease out there which is: Thank you for your service in the fight against the Black Plague. We (as in humanity as a whole) kind of owe you lot. Thank you for providing the heard immunity we need to keep this horrible disease in check.

Just watching #RobertSapolsky talk about #fainting and ideas of why. He doesn't really cover fainting in nonhuman animals, but I've seen a chicken faint in traumatic circumstance and slowly recover afterwards. He suggests that it's especially adaptive for humans because we're bipedal so getting a bit of enforced horizontal time is likely to be good for preventing some kinds of blood loss ... well I suppose chickens are also bipedal, but...? 🤔

"Determined. The Science of Life Without Free Will" par Robert Sapolsky.

I was going to use youtube videos to firstly introduce #RobertSapolsky then go to another which has a pinky-scarlet cover image (link below) on the topic of #Transgender neurobiology which has #Sapolsky relating the current understandings of neurobiology to how transgender folk function around #GenderIdentity. It's worth watching both for the science content and to see Robert's use of #Tone, #Attitude and #ChoiceOfPathTaken.www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9UWstTwbP4

How can #humans be so #compassionate and #altruistic -- and also so #brutal and #violent?
To understand why we do what we do, #neuroscientist #RobertSapolsky looks at extreme context, examining actions on timescales from seconds to millions of years before they occurred. In this fascinating talk, he shares his #cuttingedge research into the biology that drives our worst and best #behaviors.

#TheGreatSimplification #FreeWill
