Esta producción cinematográfica destaca por adaptar de forma exacta la novela gráfica homónima de Frank Miller, utilizando una técnica visual revolucionaria donde los actores reales interactúan en escenarios creados completamente de manera digital. Los directores tomaron la decisión de no escribir un guion tradicional, sino utilizar los dibujos originales del libro de historietas como si fueran el boceto de las escenas de la película. El largometraje se filmó casi en su totalidad con una pantalla verde al fondo y se editó en un marcado blanco y negro de alto contraste, donde solamente algunos elementos específicos como el color de los ojos, el cabello o la sangre se muestran con colores brillantes para llamar la atención del espectador.
La historia se divide en 3 relatos cruzados que ocurren en las calles de una ciudad ficticia y corrupta de los Estados Unidos llamada Basin City, donde los criminales, los policías y un grupo de mujeres defensoras de su propio barrio imponen sus leyes mediante la fuerza. El elenco reunió a figuras del cine como Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke y Jessica Alba, quienes interpretan a personajes con pasados difíciles que buscan venganza o redención en un ambiente oscuro y peligroso que recuerda a las viejas películas policiacas de la década de 1940. La música y la iluminación se combinan de manera perfecta para crear la sensación de estar leyendo un cómic en movimiento, logrando que el filme sea considerado una obra muy peculiar dentro del cine moderno.

Alita: Battle Angel is Robert Rodriguez's Pearl Harbor
In my review of Michael Bay's Bad Boys II I brought up an interesting theory people have about the film. The amount of Bayhem! it holds in could be a direct response to the out-of-the-comfort-zone feel Bay must have had experienced making Pearl Harbor. Basically, the film was so different from what Bay usually does, he had to crank the next movie's Bayhem! up to 11, to make it feel right again. After Robert Rodriguez directed Alita: Battle Angel with an estimated budget of about $200 million, he had to come back to his comfort-zone too. And 3 months later ( that same year in 2019 ) he released Red 11. A micro-budgeted horror film made on almost exactly $7,000.
