Elles le rendent encore plus imprévisible et dangereux

Rien ne met Trump plus en colère que d’être humilié. L’humiliation implique une honte publique, ce que le narcissisme malveillant de Trump ne peut supporter.
Mais Trump enchaîne les humiliations, qui lui font perdre la tête encore plus vite qu’auparavant.

Le régime iranien le sait, et c’est pourquoi il humilie publiquement Trump en contredisant tout ce qu’il dit concernant les progrès des négociations de paix. Hier, les représentants du pouvoir iranien sont allés encore plus loin : ils ont réfuté l’affirmation de Trump selon laquelle l’Iran ne contrôlait pas le détroit d’Ormuz et que celui-ci était à nouveau ouvert à la navigation, en attaquant un porte-conteneurs qui traversait le détroit. Les cours du pétrole ont immédiatement bondi.

Pendant ce temps, les juges américains humilient Trump en ordonnant que son nom soit retiré du Kennedy Center, en exigeant que le centre reste ouvert, en suspendant les travaux de sa salle de bal de milliardaire, en menaçant de mettre fin à son « Arch de Trump », en supprimant sa caisse noire et en annulant les poursuites que le ministère de la Justice (sic) de Trump a engagées contre ses ennemis.

Les artistes des spectacles vivants l’humilient en se retirant de sa soi-disant « Great American State Fair » sur le National Mall, car ils ne veulent pas être impliqués dans ce qui est devenu un meeting pro-Trump.

Les républicains du Congrès l’humilient en rejetant ses exigences visant à faire adopter la loi « SAVE » (qui rendrait le vote plus difficile pour des millions de personnes), à approuver son prochain paquet de mesures de réconciliation et à mettre fin à l’obstruction parlementaire au Sénat.

Quatre sénateurs républicains ont même franchi les lignes de leur parti pour soutenir une résolution sur les pouvoirs de guerre enjoignant à Trump de mettre fin aux opérations militaires contre l’Iran ou de devoir demander l’autorisation du Congrès pour les poursuivre. Leur soutien a constitué un rejet bipartisan de la gestion de la guerre par Trump. (Après des pressions exercées par Trump, le Sénat est revenu sur sa position et a rejeté la résolution lors d’un vote tard dans la nuit.)

Fêter ses 80 ans est en soi une humiliation pour Trump. Même si les médias n’insistaient pas là-dessus, son corps ne cesse de lui rappeler qu’il est le plus vieux président jamais élu. Sans parler des appels de plus en plus nombreux des démocrates à invoquer le 25ᵉ amendement au vu du comportement erratique de Trump — notamment sa querelle avec le pape, ses menaces apocalyptiques sur Truth Social et la publication d’une photo générée par IA le représentant en Jésus.

Mais la pire forme d’humiliation pour Trump, c’est le ridicule — comme cela est apparu pour la première fois en 2011, lorsque Obama l’a mis sur la sellette lors du dîner de l’Association des correspondants de la Maison Blanche en brandissant son acte de naissance et en déclarant que Trump pouvait « désormais se recentrer sur des questions importantes, comme celle de savoir si nous avons simulé l’alunissage ». Le public a éclaté de rire. Trump a fulminé.

Trump ne supporte pas d’être ridiculisé — c’est pourquoi il a tenté de pousser ABC à licencier Jimmy Kimmel et s’est réjoui lorsque CBS s’est débarrassé de Stephen Colbert. Pourtant, les humoristes des émissions de fin de soirée s’en donnent aujourd’hui à cœur joie avec le Reflecting Pool de Trump, infesté d’algues. Certains l’appellent même le « détroit de la boue chaude ».

L’accumulation des humiliations pousse Trump à s’en prendre à tout le monde sans distinction, comme en témoignent sa récente explosion de colère contre la correspondante de NBC Kristen Welker dans l’émission « Meet the Press » de NBC, ainsi que la dispute houleuse qu’il aurait eue mercredi avec le sénateur républicain Bill Cassidy lors d’un déjeuner à huis clos au Capitole. Ce déjeuner a eu lieu juste après que Trump eut lancé une bombe en annulant son intention de signer un projet de loi bipartite historique sur l’accessibilité au logement, jusqu’à ce qu’il obtienne gain de cause sur le SAVE Act.

Je suis tenté de me réjouir des humiliations subies par Trump. Mais je pense qu’il est également important de noter qu’à mesure qu’elles s’accumulent, Trump devient encore plus imprévisible et dangereux. Alors, méfiez-vous.
