I guess we just have to keep pounding the table on this.
Not even so much as a safety case is being demanded of these automakers and system developers.
In the US, I am keeping my eyes glued to pedestrian fatalities - now at 40-year highs.

No surprises here.
As I have stated multiple time on this site, over multiple months now - the #NHTSA is an absolutely horrible #auto regulator that, frankly, has done tremendous, lasted damage to US #RoadwaySafety.

I found that, at the time, massively encouraging.
The universe is likely to die of heat death before we ever see a presidential candidate focus on that again.

I have to say, it has **really** been a disappointing time under the #Biden Administration for #RoadwaySafety - after having so much promise initially.
I do not know what the issues are here, but President Biden should ask Secretary #Buttigieg for his resignation.
Sure, former Secretary Elaine Chao was ideologically worse than Buttigieg, but they are both virtually identical in ineffectiveness.
That is unacceptable.
Sad to say, but here we are.

#OTA (Over-The-Air) software updates and remote #telemetry mechanisms for #SafetyCritical systems are an under-appreciated public safety hazard when unregulated - as they are today.
Some automakers already have these mechanisms available on existing vehicles and many more equipped vehicles are now coming to market.
Very soon, these mechanisms will be commonplace.
