So once, a couple of decades ago we were burning across Hay's plains in a big V8. Hays plains is a flat area with cotton fields, emus and occasional roo and not much else.
It was hot, it was before many radar traps, we were young and immortal. We tanked up at Hells Gate and then pressed the foot to the Metal and flew at the speed just below disintegration of the old shit box with AC blowing full bore.
About 50 clicks before the next gas station we discovered suddenly what was the full tank was on Empty......no amount of tapping helped.
We rolled into the gas station on literal fumes as the engine caughed. -
