  1. The #TourDownUnder is on in #Adelaide right now, so there are many more #bikes on the road. I have questions and a request for the #roadies that are celebrating the event by getting out on the road.

When you pass other riders, why do you pass at peloton distances? When you come to red lights, why do you just blow through them? When you do these things you make #cycling less safe for the rest of us, either directly or by tarring all the rest of us with the same brush in the minds of motorists.

    Please don't.

  3. Eight great songs about touring by rock bands

    Source: news.artnet.com

Listed below are eight (8) favorite songs written by rockers about the effects of long tours on the road. Each has its own view on the topic ranking from exhaustion to missing family and home to everyplace starting to look the same.

    Source: time.com

The tour bus is a ubiquitous aspect of touring. And who can forget the scene in the movie Almost Famous when the band’s plane hits severe turbulence while they are on tour.

There were many other songs to choose from, as the rigors of touring is a common and recurring theme. Those below seem to relate the topic best and are written/recorded by rock bands. Links are provided to the accompanying video/audio for each song.

    Peace!

“Wanted: Dead or Alive” – Bon Jovi

“But I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back
I play for keeps ’cause I might not make it back
I’ve been everywhere, (Oh yeah) still I’m standing tall
I’ve seen a million faces and I’ve rocked them all”

“Happy To Be Here” – Dexter & the Moonrocks

    “Six cities to go
    Don’t let it get you
    Can’t wait to be home
Can’t wait to be with you”

“No More No More” – Aerosmith

Holiday Inn, lock the door with a chain
You love it and you hate it
But to me they’re all the same

    “Faithfully” – Journey

“They say that the road ain’t no place to start a family
Right down the line it’s been you and me
And lovin’ a music man ain’t always what it’s supposed to be
Oh, girl, you stand by me
    I’m forever yours
    Faithfully”

“Rock and Roll Band” – Boston

“Well, we were just another band out of Boston
On the road to try to make ends meet
Playin’ all the bars, sleepin’ in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didn’t have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play
    People came alive”

“Home Sweet Home” – Motley Crew

    “Just take this song
And you’ll never feel left all alone
    Take me to your heart
    Feel me in your bones
    Just one more night
And I’m coming off this long and winding road”

“We’re an American Band” – Grand Funk Railroad

“Out on the road for forty days
Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze”

    “Touring” – The Ramones

“Well, we’ve been to London, and we’ve been to L.A.
Spain, New Zealand, and the U.S.A.
    Europe, Japan, and pango-pango
    Canada, Siam, OZ and Kamoto

The kids all come from miles around
The party gets started when the sun goes down
An Holiday Inns the only home I know
    I know, I know, I know”

  4. There's a culture war around #cycling in #Australia where motorists believe that cyclists get too much for free (they don't), are using resources that rightfully belong to motorists (they don't), and are constantly breaking the law (they aren't). Anything that supports any of these beliefs makes cycling on Australian roads less safe.

So, please, please, please, #roadies, can you stop behaving so badly when you use the roads for your sport. When it's a red light, STOP. When there is a pedestrian crossing and you are dropping out of your optimal training zone, JUST WAIT. If the front of your peloton makes it through a traffic signal, but you do not, DO NOT JUST BLOW THROUGH IT. If there are other cyclists in front of you and you want to pass, DON'T ASSUME THEY ARE HAPPY WITH PELOTON SPACING.

#Roadies, each time you behave like an arsehole, people notice, and all of us cyclists get tarred with the same brush. Just stop it.

  5. Willie Nelson Presents: King of the Roadies | Official Trailer

A true story about the unreal life of an unsung country music hero. Willie Nelson and friends share stories of the enigmatic Texan, Ben Dorcy (aka Lovey), an unsung hero who shaped American music history, pioneered an entire profession as the world’s first roadie, and rivaled time itself to keep the show on the road.

  7. Dear friends,
The lead photo in the @nytimes profile of #photographer Dayanita Singh is an image of #musicians prepping to load their instruments on a bus. "Wait!," I thought. I have one, too!

Well. it's just a #tuba being loaded into a van.

  8. Finally got to ride with my Dad for the first time since we became roadies (road bike riders) independent of each other, myself in Canada, he back in rural England.

We rode on the winding, tight rural West Suffolk (UK) roads I grew up on and came of age on both hiking and riding in cars as a passenger.

We rode to the famous Maglia Rosso café.
