Having a great early #cycling season, with 11 rides in April and more than 800 km on the season already. Of course, now the rains will come and make it more challenging to get out. New #bike, new computer, #Insta360 camera all giving me new incentive to get out there into the gorgeous early spring we've had in temps running from the 40s to the 80s F.

As of April 9, I have 488 km of riding on the season (my whole last season was 2000 km) – and a lovely new bike, a Cervélo Caledonia. I went over to the electronic shifting/disc brakes / wide tires cult, and I am not regretting it. I come back from rides so much less fatigued!
It allowed me to go up a cinder trail that I've been avoiding in recent years because it was really rough on my 23mm tires on my Roubaix.

You will know how important it is to be protected when your hands need to hit the pavement at speeds of 20 to 50 km an hour while you have to break a fall, because you're tire gave out, and lost its grip, on sand in a corner. Without high quality gloves like this you will have severe injuries on your fingers.
The gloves I wear are rated to be used by truck drivers, truck mechanics & welders

I'm definitely shallow, but as I'm about to hit 65 years of age, I was pretty pleased that without really aiming to do so, I set a new record going up a steepish (7.3%) climb today, one I've done at least 100 times before. It's also early in the ride, when I'm never really warmed up.
September legs are the best legs.

After a mere 12 (!!) years, my #Specialized Comp #cycling shoes are giving out – or, at least, they're losing their little heel pads. I could probably keep riding in them but they've served 10s of thousands of miles (without ever aggravating my tendonitis, which is miraculous). New shoes on order from my local bike shop. BUT: the new shoes mean I need to go to a new pedal system. Been running on Eggbeaters for nearly 20 years; gonna try SPDs again.

Bike shop just called and say my wheel (the SR-3 stock wheels that come with Giant Contend bikes) are bent and need to be replaced.

I took Grey ⚫🚲 because Big Bike ⚪🚲 went comatose for a while after it got wet. It turns on but I haven't tested it since and wasn't sure about using it on a long ride.
I was the only one on smaller wheels and pedal assist. 🚲⚡😅

Too much time off the #bike (as always seems to happen in one summer month or another), this time thanks to a need for antibiotics that have left my body feeling like anything more than existing will push me over the edge. Hoping to force myself out tomorrow, if only for a light spin on the trails. Definitely no climbs – the stomach's not up for it.

Today's #bikeride: Went from not feeling great to doing my longest, hardest, climbiest ride of the season. Offered the chance to come home flat and easy, I was inspired by one of my kids doing something really difficult today and chose to add a stupid hard climb (1.5 km, 8.2%) to the end just because. I'm here to tell about it, so I guess it worked out. Overall it was 63 km, with 928 m of climbing.

With yesterday's #BikeRide, I got very close to 1000 miles (1595 km) for the season so far, with, ostensibly, 15,645 meters of climbing (9.7 miles), easily doubling last year's sad numbers, and besting 2021's (more of a normal year). Strongest year (so far!) since 2017.
Still, every time I get ready to go, my brain thinks of other things I should be doing. Why does it hate me so?
