If this guy had survived, he would have very likely been nicked from his hospital bed (even Addenbrookes if he ended up there), serving a few years in HMP (possibly as a disabled prisoner) and living with a lifetime of debt (insurers may still choose to go after him to recover their substantial costs)
Another lad in the car *did* try and get him to slow down, but he simply refused to do so.
Sooner or later incidents like this are likely to get graduated driving licences introduced here (although that means more surveillance to enforce them, and if the worse aspects of #CarCulture are not addressed might only push the bad behaviour slightly along the age group into drivers 20s/30s)

Alas, the findings of this #Inquest were exactly what I feared they would be - young lad had deliberately picked an out of the way road in #Wisbech to go #hooning but ignored risks from poor road surface (there's reasons why that road didn't have any traffic!) and was #driving at grossly excessive #speed when he clouted a #pothole , lost control and whole #car flipped and ended up in the River Nene
His family were lucky the #ECU and #insurance #blackbox also got drowned to the point that 0 data could be recovered from them, but I can see why they didn't want to attend the inquest

Missing here: enforcement, phone use, lighting and road design, thinning traffic patrols, and crash-avoidance tech that actually works at night. Going straight from "suvs are taller" to taxes and licence conditions skips every lever that prevents the collision in the first place.
