Ein #Franziskaner auf dem Augsburger #Bischofsthron
Petrus von Hötzel wurde heute vor 190 Jahren in #München geboren, wo er nach der Schulzeit auch ins Franziskanerkloster eintrat. Dietfurt und Landshut wurden seine Lebensmittelpunkte.
Zwischenzeitlich zum Provinzial seines Ordens bestimmt, wurde er 1894 von #Prinzregent Luitpold als Bischof von Augsburg vorgeschlagen und von #LeoXIII. ernannt.
Acht Jahre lang stand er an der Spitze des #BistumAugsburg. In dieser Zeit führte er unter anderem die Ewige Anbetung im Bistum ein, widmete sich der Kirchenmusik und der besseren Ausbildung der #Priesteramtskandidaten.
1895 wurde er, wie damals üblich, zum #Ritter geschlagen.
1902 starb er und wurde in einer Kapelle des Ostchores im #Augsburger Dom beigesetzt. Die schlichte Bodenplatte über seinem #Grab bezeichnet ihn als "Pater und Dominus - Vater und Herr".
