I don't know that I classify as an official parrot head because I never went to any of his concerts, but I was a fan. Jimmy was remarkable and iconic.

The news broke today that Jimmy Buffett has sailed away for the final time. The weight of his departure presses on me more than I had expected. Jimmy Buffett's melodies are the soundtrack to chapters of my life.

I still remember the warm afternoon sun in 1994 streaming through the car window as my dad and I drove home. Geno Michelini’s voice on 95.5 KLOS heralded the first strains of "Quietly Making Noise." By the time the last chord faded, I was hooked and that weekend, we went to Music+ to get the CD. I absorbed every note, every lyric, until they became second nature, imprinted in the chambers of my heart.

In 1996, my dad took me to my first Buffett concert during the Banana Wind Tour in Las Vegas. The atmosphere was intoxicating, even if I was one of the youngest faces in the crowd. Then later my husband and I celebrated anniversaries at Buffett concerts and his music became part of our life.

Sail on sailor and let the dolphin and jolly mon guide you to the horizon and beyond.
