‘Louis said, "Can I help you?"
"You can," said the alien…
…in a voice to spark adolescent dreams. Had Louis visualized a woman to go with that voice, she would have been Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, Marilyn Monroe, and Lorelei Huntz, rolled into one.’

“In Budapest were wine and athletic dances, natives who tolerated him as a tourist with money, tourists who thought he was a wealthy native. He danced the dances and he drank the wines, and he left before midnight.”

Poor Teela Brown and Halrloprillalar Hotrufan. Cursed to be created in Ringworld and doomed to be written by Larry Niven. 😱

Great joke Larry Niven. I don't understand why people think you're sexist? #ringworld

Started reading a #Discworld novel for the first time thinking it was #Ringworld. I feel it's like mixing up #StarTrek & #StarWars.
Will continue the Discworld book.

Finally finished and reviewed #Ringworld, and I gotta say, classic or not, I had a very tough time with it. Sure, by some "objective" standard it might be a great book, but my experience with it was the complete opposite.

I was finally able to complete the Ringworld cycle via resale... and I consider Protector as important filler.

@alexanderdyas I LOVED #Ringworld when I read it, about 30some years ago.
I'm going to pick it up again, curious to see how well it still holds. -
Finished (re)reading #LarryNiven's #Ringworld for the first time in 10 years, in preparation to read #RingworldEngineers. Probably the first time I've read a book cover to cover in... Well about 10 years. It's nice to get back on old (good) habits!

New art! This one is called “On a Clear Day.”
On a clear day, you can see forever.
Playing some more with sense of scale and distance! This render was partly inspired from a dream I had in which I was on a ringworld.
Made with Blender and Photoshop (no AI).

The last #StarTrek #LowerDecks episode had a Kzin on a Ringworld. Of course, it was one of those cooperative ones that Nessus created.

Sci-Fi Dolphins from the eighties.
The first is from the Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society #6, 1980. I love the fact that the suit is double-hulled, with a small bubble that provides air. He doesn't have recognizable waldos (manipulator arms) although they're mentioned in the text.
The second is from Dragon #95, 1985, for the Ring World RPG. His suit is depicted with waldos.
Interestingly, the second one is a bit of a throwback--probably because of the older source material--in that the dolphins are unaltered. Humans just finally worked out how to communicate with them.
The former is one of the first examples of "Uplifted" dolphins (although it doesn't use that term) that have been enhanced in some ways by Humans or Ancients. 1980 seems to be the year we gave up on dolphins being our intellectual peers.

It’s the Disc, Kin, but not as we know it!
There’s a giant turtle, but no elephants. There’s a Broken Drum, but it’s in space. And there’s something wrong with the sky - but that one’s on us, we crashed our spaceship into it...
EJ Mann joins us to talk about #TerryPratchett’s third and final pre- #Discworld novel, the sci-fi #Ringworld parody STRATA! #Pratchat68

@futzle seems like an attractive place to PUT lead to me! If the process and properties replicate them I'd agree with the author that this could be amazing.
Also any #Ringworld mentions are great!

26) And Chaosium added to the licensed products market as well with their Basic RPG System adaptation of "Ringworld". The game brought Larry Niven's "Known Space" to life and was brilliant, although not successful enough to remain in print for more than two years.
