The #RingNebula (Messier 57)is an elongated planetary nebula, a type of nebula created when a Sun-like star evolves to throw off its outer atmosphere and become a white dwarf star.
The Ring Nebula is about 2,500 light-years away toward the musical constellation Lyra.

Rings Around the Ring Nebula
The Ring Nebula (M57) is more complicated than it appears through a small telescope. The easily visible central ring is about one light-year across, but this remarkably deep exposure - a collaborative effort combining data from three different large telescopes - explores the looping filaments of glowing gas extending much farther from the nebula's central star.

DYK that the general public, you and I, have access to JWST images (within days of their release)?!
And you can download and process them?
I just colour processed the Ring Nebula, and holy hell, how is this a real image?! 🤯🤯🤯
Will write a blog on #SpaceAustralia this weekend on how YOU can also do this - super easy and no tech skills required.

An image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope shows the Ring Nebula, one of the most iconic planetary nebulae, in new details that reveal the complexity of the processes taking place during the last phase of the life of a small to medium star thanks to the NIRCam (Near Infrared Camera) instrument's ability to detect infrareds.

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #RingNebula aka #M57 is a planetary nebula in the constellation of #Lyra approximately 2560 light years away. It formed about 7500 years ago as its central star rapidly expelled its supply of hydrogen which now forms the reddish outer ring. The blue center is comprised of doubly ionized oxygen that obscures the remaining faint central white dwarf. This image is 2.5 hours of exposures that I captured a few nights ago. #StillLearning
