  3. Today a walk along the #Rilke Trail, on the cliff edge, overlooking the Bay of #Trieste 🇮🇹. It’s still very early spring here. The air is a bit hazy, yet the views of #Duino castle are always nice.
And there’s a (freight) train on the last photo 😉. This is the Venice to Trieste and Ljubljana line.

  9. Going through the pictures taken today while on a hike along the #Rilke trail, starting at #Duino 🇮🇹 castle. Wonderful views on the Bay of #Trieste as the path follows the #Karst ridge.

  14. Calm creation that in opening closes, often ceases by starting

Seek transformation. O be eager for that flame
in which something escapes you, proud of change.
In overcoming the earthbound, that designing spirit
loves the zest of a figure at its turning point.

Whatever locks itself shut has already petrified.
Does it feel safe and secure in inconspicuous grey?
Wait – the hard warned by the hardest far away.
Woe betide – a distant hammer’s lifted high!

Whoever pours himself like a spring, realisation
realises him, will lead him joyful to calm creation
that in opening closes, often ceases by starting.

Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus, translated by Martyn Crucefix

  17. Calling out to #poetry fediverse,
to #Rilke geeks around the world -
is there anyone who could help me clarify or find places to clarify this alleged #quote

"poetry is the past that breaks out in our hearts"

It is assigned to #Rilke by Margaret #Atwood in her latest book, #Dearly,

however the translator remarks, that its origin is very unclear/doubtful.

    #Duino humans, pls help!

  23. “And God said to me, Paint:
    Time is the canvas
    stretched by my pain:
    the wounding of woman,
    the brother’s betrayal,
    the city’s sad bacchanals,
    the madness of kings.”

  24. Since the first translations of haiku were made in the West, some of the greatest writers of the twentieth century have grown fond of this poetic genre, from Rainer Maria #Rilke to Paul #Eluard. In Italy, some poets who have embraced the current of hermeticism, such as #Ungaretti and #Quasimodo, approached haiku. Famous is that of Ezra Pound with his urban #imagism:

"The appearance of these faces in the crowd,/Petals on a wet, black bough."
