Three shifted chows won't get you extra points in riichi mahjong, but I find this 1-2-3-2-1 shape very useful for orienting myself when I'm going for a closed chin'itsu :neofox_magnify:

After two days of teaching #RiichiMahjong to people at 2DCon in Minneapolis this weekend I’m spent. But I’m pretty sure we had over 100 new players in those two days with all of us regulars helping. Really a very good and fun con with a focus on video and board gaming. Worth it!

Today my first dealership consisted of two hanemans, followed by two mangans. We ended up playing just the east round, so that we could swap with other players, so I had "only" 93700 at the end (starting with 30k), otherwise I might have cracked the 100k :neofox_happy:

The first hanchan today was progressing very slowly, with many cheap hands and exhaustive draws. Then I became dealer for the first time and bam: riichi, tsumo, haku, dora, aka, ura 3, 8000 all! :neofox_bongo:

Ever had your favorite #LLM struggle to read #riichimahjong screenshots, or straight-up fail at OCR? Tools like mortal/naga/maka only spit out cold digits and gives no explanation for why they made a decision? Ever wondered what it'd look like if your tenhou.net game log got M League style TV commentary instead? My friend says this makes the tenhou.net even better than majsoul!

Oh boy. I won my table at #RiichiMahjong tonight but I almost REALLY won with a tanki Suuankou (a rare double yakuman). Four concealed triplets and I was waiting on the last tile to make a pair of tiles. Would’ve been worth 96,000 points (each player starts the game with 30,000)!! The player across from me went out first! 😫😂🤯 Fun times though.

Holy shit it happened! My very first Thirteen Orphans! I had a very good starting hand for this, as I ended up calling Riichi waiting on the North Wind on my second discard. And I wasn't in the North seat, which made it clear that I was most likely gonna get it at some point, because "Well of course I'm not gonna get Ron'd off of a North Wind".
This was also the second round of the game, so no one had enough points yet to survive having to pay 32000 points.
I haven't won a game of Riichi Mahjong on either Riichi City nor Mahjong Soul in a few days. What a way to win for the first time in a while!!!

Welp. I had a bad streak in Mahjong Soul and have too few copper to play in anything but the Bronze Room now (I am in Gold). I never knew that copper disappears if you lose a bunch. So now I either have to play Bronze room for a while (not fun for me nor for my opponents that are genuinely Bronze) or pay Mahjong Soul real money for copper. The game is essentially holding itself hostage unless I either don't have fun for a while or unless I give them money.
Secret third option is saying screw this and going to Riichi City permanently (I was playing both so far). Which is what I'm going to do, unless I find out City also locks you out of the game if you don't do well for a few days.
Doesn't seem like a good strategy for Soul to shoo away their players, though. Unless they're like "Well if they're not gonna give us money to keep playing, they're not gonna pay for the gacha either, so as far as we're concerned, they might as well stop playing, we don't care".

I just had a Mahjong game in which I had 4 consecutive rounds with me trying a half flush or full flush in the bamboo suit. And it's not like I was forcing it for the bit, I just genuinely got a lot of bamboo all those times.
There was even almost a fifth. The only reason I didn't go for it, despite having all bamboo except 3 tiles of characters (and nothing of circles) was because the 3 tiles of characters were 2-3-4, so that was a completed sequence that I didn't wanna break apart for the greed.
Still, 4 rounds alone is crazy enough.

Just learnt about another strange Tenhou rule:
サドンデスルールは、30000点(供託未収)以上になった時点で終了、ただし親の連荘がある場合は連荘を優先する
That is, sudden death ends once a player has 30k or more, unless there was a double ron (or an exhaustive draw) with the dealer being one of the winners and the dealer not being in first place afterwards, in which case the dealer repeat takes priority :neofox_what:
(I would have finished first with 31k, but instead we continued playing and I ended last :neofox_glare: )

Also, I used up a lot of tickets on the gacha for this character, but I didn't get her. Now I don't have any tickets left, nor time, since she's going away in slightly over 9 hours.
But the main reason I really wanted her was because she reminds me of Mutsumi. Hair color and expression matches! Also the more quiet voice. Mutsumi specifically, not Mortis, she'd have a different expression.
Do we know if Hizuki will be added to the main gacha pool afterwards? Cause if so, it won't be impossible for me to get her in the future, just a lot less likely, since there's a higher chance of getting her for now.
But yeah, this is as close to an Ave Mujica collab as possible without having an actual Ave Mujica collab :TamakoLaugh:
