  1. Campaign for walkers’ access in Glen Lyon

    'Walkers are being asked to unite to challenge attempts to close Glen Lyon hills this autumn. Ramblers Scotland has today launched a petition to challenge the Perthshire North Chesthill Estate's two-month ban on walkers accessing four popular Munros in Glen Lyon.'

  3. @ChrisMayLA6 I’m not sure about that, Chris. We can get _to_ the Lune at regular points but there’s very little access _along_ it. #rightToRoam

  5. CW: Some beer I've been drinking

    @caskfan was drinking a #RightToRoam by #BuxtonBrewery at #TheForesters on Thursday at 15:02 Served from cask, I rated it at 4.0 (great) #beer #alcohol #untappd #beersofmastodon

  6. Book review – Wild Service: Why Nature Needs You – Edited by Nick Hayes and Jon Moses

    Packed with enchanting essays about people’s personal relationships with nature. Several brought a tear to my eye.

    It looks at why many people have lost the deep connection with the natural world that was once taken for granted.
    Another theme is Right to Roam. Unlike in Germany or Scotland, citizens in England and the US are unable to walk where they wish without trespassing.

  8. #UK #catsofmastodon #righttoroam our neighbour complained about our cat going to their balcony...I guess people still think she's a tom just because she is ginger, she is neutered and doesn't spread but does enjoy her range of patrol. Not sure what to do.

  10. The annual Dartmoor hike-and-camp trip with G is done for another year. I wouldn't mind being back there now with this view, although I'd happily skip the torrential rain that arrived the following morning as we walked down from the moor. #hiking #walking #camping #righttoroam #dartmoor

  12. In the #BBCnews article on the judgment upholding the right to wild camping on Dartmoor, they make it clear that this is the only place it’s permitted in England. But they can’t bring themselves to point out we have the #rightToRoam, including responsible camping, across most of Scotland, as is the case in many other northern European countries.

  14. Woo hoo! In the words of the Right to Roam campaign:

    "The Supreme Court has ruled in favour of wild camping on Dartmoor. A right that was under threat has been upheld. For now, the last place in England where people can legally sleep under the stars, without payment or permission, remains open to all."

  16. “The Land Reform Act 2003 gives everyone rights of access over land and inland water throughout Scotland, subject to specific exclusions set out in the Act and as long as they behave responsibly. These rights are sometimes referred to as 'freedom to roam'.”

    This is a peninsula on Loch Bracadale which has no inhabitants beyond a certain point. It is a glorious place in which to roam. The paths you can see were made by sheep.

  23. Outdoorsy people - has anyone dealt with access issues in Perth & Kinross shire? There's no mention of the (statutory requirement) Access Officer on the council's website. Had to raise a generic complaint and hope it gets forwarded to the right person.

    But it's Perthshire, a lot of access issues. 🙄

    Locked gates, if anyone was wondering.

  29. There's certainly inequality in #RightToRoam - but surely one big factor in the discrepancies is the Tory constituencies tend to be in rural areas with more land people might want to roam on, whereas the Labour ones are in urban areas where everything has already been built on and is private property?
