A "certain" #rideshare company just bitched at me (via in-app notification) that I took a customer "out of the way" to get to their destination.

They must not monitor traffic. 2 cop cars and 4 ambulances passed us on the I-4. I looked ahead and saw traffic stopped for miles. I got off on exit and took alternate path. My customer got there within 5 min of estimated time. My customer (who I asked to give me their contact info JUST IN CASE) is PISSED Uber is bitching at me.

Sooo.... #Uber is basically trying to replace me as a #rideshare driver? Then maybe drivers should start poaching the customers Uber links us with - to deal with me w/o the app!

I stopped ride sharing when my car broke down underground.

My mechanic said it was the worst case of carpool tunnel syndrome he’d ever seen.

Wow. PBOT released a long email detailing some of what PBOT does. Long. Some highlights:

"1,769 calls from public agencies to tow vehicles that were blocking traffic or causing other public safety issues in all of Multnomah County, including Portland. PBOT's rules mean car owners are charged no more than a set rate -- $277 for a typical sedan -- when their vehicle is towed by Portland Police or PBOT parking enforcement."

"Towing companies are required to inform vehicle owners and Portland Police whenever a vehicle is towed. They are required to have a 24-hour dispatch call center to be able to let consumers know that they have the vehicle and a process for retrieval during established business hours (additional fees may apply for after hours pick ups). The parking lot has to have adequate signage warning about towing and providing contact information. All these requirements are listed in a PBOT Administrative Rule. The rates they charge for towing and storage are also regulated per bureau's approved Private Property Impound Rates."

"In 2025, PBOT revoked the private property impound permit for Retriever Towing, which had been behind on paying for permits and had been found to have 52 unpermitted tows in less than four weeks. PBOT required the company to refund consumers for all unpermitted towing charges. Even after the bureau offered payment plans, the company remained behind on paying routine service and dispatch fees"

"All drivers and vehicles that provide Private for-Hire Transportation services on Portland streets are required to go through an annual review. This makes sure that Portland’s PFHT drivers are professional, safe, and exceptional; the vehicles that provide PFHT services are well maintained and meet high performance standards. Failure to do so will result in a fine and even revocation of the company’s permit to operate."

"More than 10,000 trips per year are provided in a wheelchair accessible van. PBOT provides a $15 per ride subsidy to the taxi, Uber or Lyft company that provides the ride, because accessible service requires vehicles that are more expensive to operate than a standard sedan. All companies are required to provide accessible service when requested. PDX WAV is a program that creates a single point of contact for wheelchair users to call when they are looking for a ride. You can order an accessible Uber or Lyft on their app by selecting the option when requesting a ride, or call PDX WAV at 503 865-4WAV (865-4928) to be directed to a taxi company dispatcher who will help match you with a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) or call a taxi company directly."

🤔 When I was actually a teenager I hitchhiked a lot. Lots of people did. Friends hitchhiked. Some hitched through Europe. I picked up hitchhikers.

I last hitched a ride 15-20y ago, & that was very unusual. I don't think I've seen a hitchhiker in a decade or more. 🤷

Do you or other people still hitchhike where you are? Or did "if you hitchhike you're either a serial killer or about to become a victim of one" win our hearts & minds?

Uber would rather keep some money than make things right for a customer.

Yesterday’s ride had a tire fail about 30 minutes from our final destination. The driver, who was really nice, had to cancel the ride before getting us home. My daughter and I had to call for (and pay for) another ride to finally get home.

Uber charged me for the full ride even though we were about a dozen miles from the destination.When I asked for that to be reviewed and get a partial refund, they said no.

I don’t use ride share much, I am glad there is still competition because I will be using other ways of getting around instead of Uber.

The shortsightedness of Uber customer service to cling onto a money instead of making things right has lost them a customer and garnered them negative social posts about the experience.

I’m sure that me not using their service occasionally won’t hurt their bottom line. Nor will this post do much damage — though you can help spread it with a boost.

That’s the sad thing about large corporations, they don’t feel the repercussions of their bad behavior. It sucks.

But, I will still vote with my money and not give Uber any.

Uber Will Let Women Skip Male Drivers, Riders Wth New Feature: Here's How

For women riders, Uber is introducing three ways to increase the chances of being matched with a woman driver.

When requesting an on-demand ride, users will soon see an option for women drivers. If the wait time is too long, they can still choose a standard pickup.

For those who prefer to plan ahead, women can pre-schedule trips with the preference enabled through Uber Reserve. Additionally, a "women driver" preference can be turned on in the app's settings.

While a match isn't guaranteed, enabling the setting increases the likelihood of being paired with a woman driver. Women drivers will be able to toggle a similar setting in their app to prioritize female passengers.

#DiDi, a so called #RideShare company, has some dirty little tricks that it plays on customers.

1. Try a small correction to the pickup location? Get charged more money.

2. Take a bit longer before confirming your trip? Get charged more money.

3. Book multi-leg Trip A -> B -> C ->B and get charged for it. On first arrival at point B, trip was declared finished.

It has some sly behaviours that disadvantage drivers too.

And for all this it is IMO 500 times better than #Uber.

By the way: When you choose to fly in and out of a small airport 45 minutes from #WaltDisneyWorld & you take an #Uber #Rideshare BACK to #Sanford (airport) to catch your flight home, please realize that the driver likely will have to #deadhead back to #WaltDisneyWorld and therefore a $10 tip is NOT enough to cover gas & time for that trip!

It's another story when the airport is #MCO & nearby, but you chose to penny-pinch and fly #Allegiant into the small airport!
