Kontynuuję plan, by stopniowo zaprezentować u siebie wszystkie komiksy autorstwa Richarda Corbena. Przed Wami epizod trzeci.
Zanim jednak przejdę dalej mam dwa ogłoszenia. Po pierwsze – podliczyłem, o ilu komiksach musiałbym napisać, jeśli miałbym dowieźć projekt do końca, i wyszło mi ich 206. Tak więc w ciągu roku na pewno się nie wyrobię. Ale przecież nie chodzi o to, żeby złapać króliczka, lecz by gonić go. Po drugie – wiem, że część z Was preferuje czytanie takich materiałów w wersji blogaskowej, tak więc nie będę z tym czekał na finał projektu, tylko przy każdym wpisie w soszalach będę aktualizował zbiorczy wpis na blogu. Link do niego znajdziecie w komentarzu.
A teraz do rzeczy. Ostatnim razem skończyliśmy na komiksie "Tales from the Plague" opublikowanym po raz pierwszy w 13. numerze "Weirdom Illustrated".
Na publikację kolejnego komiksu Corbena nie trzeba było długo czekać. 13. numer "Wierdom Illustrated" trafił do sprzedaży w kwietniu 1969 roku, a już w maju ukazał się 15. numer fanzinu "Voice of Comicdom", do którego poza trzema ostatnimi planszami "Monsters Rule" trafił szort "The Lure of the Tower".
"The Lure of the Tower" poznałem w oderwaniu od "Monsters Rule", więc nie było mi dane doświadczenie osób, które sięgnęły po 15. numer "Voice of Comicdom" i w ramach jednej lektury mogły zestawić ze sobą dwa komiksy Corbena powstałe krótkim odstępie czasu.
A doświadczenie to musiało być ciekawe, ponieważ, mimo kreski zdradzającej, że oba komiksy wyszły spod ręki tego samego rysownika, "The Lure of the Tower" to pod względem formalnym rzecz mocno odmienna od "Monsters Rule".
O ile bowiem plansze "Monsters Rule" składały się z od 10 do 14 kadrów, o tyle "The Lure of the Tower" liczą one od 3 do 9 kadrów, z przewagą plansz zawierających 5 lub 6 kadrów. Poza tym w "The Lure of the Tower" Corben poświęcił cały ośmiostronicowy komiks na przedstawienie sytuacji, którą w formule "Monsters Rule" zawarłaby się na dwóch stronach.
Pod względem fabularnym "The Lure of the Tower" można postrzegać jako zapowiedź późniejszych komiksów Corbena czerpiących z heroic fantasy (w rodzaju "Dena" czy wydanego w Polsce "Mglistego wymiaru"), choć tu jeszcze ogrywana jest ona na poważnie. Ot mamy tu do czynienia z prostą historią o wojowniku w stylu Conana, który podejmuje się uwolnienia księżniczki więzionej w wieży przez złola mającego na usługach różne monstra. Historia zawiera jednak twist – księżniczka okazuje się wiedźmą, zaś złol jej ofiarą.
Po pierwotnej publikacji komiks został wznowiony tylko raz – we wspomnianym przy okazji "Monsters Rule" albumie "Richard Corben: Flights into Fantasy" z 1981 roku. Do wpisu załączam cztery plansze z hiszpańskiej wersji owego albumu – "Richard Corben: Vuelo a la fantasia".

Mam plan. Nie jest zbyt sprytny, ale mam nadzieję trzymać się go, póki jeszcze nie uzmysławiam sobie w pełni jego niesprytności.
A plan jest taki, żeby w tym roku pokazać tu wszystkie komiksy, jakie na przestrzeni swej ponad pięćdziesięcioletniej kariery zrobił Richard Corben. W większości przypadków będą to tylko wybrane plansze, ale co jakiś czas wrzucę całość – jeśli uznam, że to nikomu nie zaszkodzi, bo, na ten przykład, jakaś pozycja nie była wznawiana od dekad.
Na początek mam dla Was pierwszy opublikowany komiks Corbena – ośmiostronicową historię "Monsters Rule". Pierwotnie komiks był publikowany w częściach na łamach "Voice of Comicdom" w latach 1968-1969 – w numerach 12. i 13. opublikowano po jednej planszy, a 14. i 15. po trzy plansze. Nieco później całość przedrukowano w 15. numerze magazynu "Weirdom Comix" z 1972 roku. Ostatni raz komiks ukazał się drukiem w 1981 roku w albumie "Richard Corben: Flights into Fantasy".
"Monsters Rule" to opowieść o międzygwiezdnym agencie, który, ścigając zbiegłego kryminalistę, trafia na planetę zamieszkałą przez humanoidalnych obcych i prymitywnych ludzi. Jest przygoda, bitka, międzygatunkowy seks i nieco czarnego humoru (wspaniały finał siódmego epizodu). Znaczy – widać tu już tego Corbena, którego pokochało sporo czytelników komiksów, choć to wciąż początek jego drogi twórczej.
Na dzisiaj tyle. Więcej wkrótce. Mam nadzieję, że uda mi się dowieźć ten projekt przynajmniej do połowy :).

Friday pickups- My regular shop didn't order the Amanda Conner variant of the Power Girl Special so I passed on Wed, glad I did! Also some Corben on the cover of BS #6, and the first three issues of Marvel's short lived venture into the underground- Comix Book.

Friday pickups- I had a coverless Super Mouse comic as a kid and I remember being confused and bemused by it so I popped $2 for this one. #Steranko cover and #RossAndru inside Doc Savage was a go. #RichardCorben on Hulk? Yes please, and a random Catwoman comic with an #EricSchanower story seemed interesting.
