As James Stafford of The Diffuser put it, it was that "the little spark that ignited the rap rock revolution." The album was produced by Gang of Four guitarist Andy Gill, and is the only Peppers album to feature Jack Sherman on guitar.

I was introduced to the Chili Peppers in 1987 on a rainy day in Camp Zama, Japan via the movie “Tough Guys”. I was more formally introduced by my brother two years later with “Freaky Stylely” and “Uplift Mofo”.

I saw this when it came out, but it just shuffled on again.
Quite an unexpected beat poetry paean to peaceful, multi-cultural cohabitation and thriving with interpretive dance by a guy who used to play bass in a sock.
