β§ A series of volcanic eruptions β§
A series of volcanic eruptions has been ongoing in the Reykjanes Peninsula, near the town of GrindavΓk, Iceland, since 18 December 2023. The eruptions, of which there have been seven so far, began after an intense series of earthquakes in November 2023. Although localised, seismic and volcanic activi...

Oh crap, the lava's on the edge of their staging area. It is SO CLOSE

These crews need some kind of Civilian Medal of Valor, on-the-spot insta-retirement, SOMETHING. They are literally walking up to the edge of a lava flow from a brand-new fissure eruption to move equipment out of the way.
Just because effusive eruptions seem predictable, that doesn't mean they always (or ever) are. They are risking their lives to do this.

Watching the #eruption happening from the #ReykjanesPeninsula which overlooks #Grindavik and hoping the updated evacuation was successful, especially seeing the news that they reckon magma is underneath the township proper this time
For those interested, Iβm watching a stream at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXD4A9uFHcg

This video from @ mondoterremoti on Twitter reportedly shows the impact of a magma intrusion pulsing through the ground below the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland where an eruption is now imminent. Based on this footage I'd have long packed my bags and left - the sound is absolutely terrifying.

Stuffβs getting real in #Iceland. 1400 #earthquakes, some fairly strong, in the #grindavik area in the last 48 hours. They evacuated the #BlueLagoon a couple of days ago, and today they announced an evacuation of Grindavik because they just donβt know exactly where the #magma will emerge. But itβs looking to be several times stronger than the #ReykjanesPeninsula eruptions of the last 3 summers.

A nice long video of the volcanic eruption on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula earlier this week.

Whoa, nelly! (Those are (very recent) earthquakes.)
A volcanic #eruption is imminent at #Keilir or #Fagradalsfjall on the #ReykjanesPeninsula, threatening the road between #Reykjavik and #KEF / #KeflavikAirport. Reykjavikβs been feeling literally thousands of quakes pretty much nonstop for days, according to an Icelandic YouTuber.
I wonder how Icelanders are doing? Calm? Nervous? Annoyed?
