  1. New Tractor With 12-Valve Cummins and Zero Electronics Goes Back to the Basics

Ursa Ag, out of Canada, is building farm equipment that's both affordable and serviceable by independent shops.

The tractor is new, but the Cummins engine is "re-manufactured" and sourced from used engines from an earlier time.

I think this is a really good way of going about it. Kind of #RetroEdge in re-purposing something of quality from a while ago and mixing with new parts.

  2. Experimenting with more Artix Linux "spins" (that the right word?)

This is a USB live boot of Moksha desktop environment. Moksha is interesting to me as it is a continuation of the Enlightenment Desktop, written in C and with BSD style software license. Very #RetroEdge.

As configured, and with the choices of included software, it definitely would not be a daily driver for me, but I can see tweaking it a bit would make it more appealing.

  3. You've given me some things to consider.

So far, I really have had a good experience with Linux Mint Debian Edition and also with recommending and supporting it for customers.

I am certainly open to trying and testing other things.

For #RetroEdge, I think I've settled on the i3 Window manager as my preferred desktop experience.
  4. Given my focus on #RetroEdge and interest in #BSD, I am much more interested in Xlibre as a continuation of X11 than I am in WayLand.

  5. Anyone have any experience with Adelie Linux ?

Instead of systemD, it uses openRC or s6 for init.

Adelie Linux can run on all kinds of older and current hardware. Would be cool to see some High Performance Computing examples.

  11. It may struggle on larger resource heavy websites, but customer has been fine with it, even uses to watch video websites.

The Core 2 Duo line can still do quite a lot. It was my focus when I first started doing "RetroEdge Tech".

  16. Lagrange is a cross-platform client for browsing Geminispace (and Gopher). It offers modern conveniences familiar from web browsers, such as smooth scrolling, inline image viewing, multiple tabs, visual themes, Unicode fonts, bookmarks, history, and page outlines.

  17. Successfully upgraded a Dell Optiplex 3010 to a Xeon e3-1225 v2 processor, replacing the i5-3450 that was originally in the computer.

Also was able to replace the memory with ECC memory (PC3L-12800E) - Registered memory won't work, though.

  18. As someone who is interested in #retro tech, I am happy to see #xlibre emerge.

We'll see how things are a year from now. I predict that #xlibre will continue to gain support, both mind-share and financial.

  19. Thank you. I like the look a lot, too. I am contemplating redoing my website and I remembered that I had this designed when I first started working with the #retroedge idea and name.
  20. Lagrange is an example of a RetroEdge program by @jk

It's written in C, with SDL for graphics. Has a specific purpose, browsing gemini sites, and does it well. Source code, with dependencies, is available as a tarball so you can compile it on most any machine that has a C compiler.

It is visually minimal, but has an aesthetic.

  21. I am reading about the #trongate #php framework:

    https://trongate.io/docs

The approach and philosophy is very #retroedge, in that they want to keep it stable and usable for the long term (no unnecessary rewrites).
  22. I plan to use current versions of #Devuan and #NetBSD on these type of machines, so not #retro software, rather #RetroEdge if I say so myself.
