Her escort tried to lead her swiftly past the pair of panhandlers, but she pulled free, unwrapped her scarf, & gave it to one. Then she took a pocketknife from her purse, stuck it into the bottom of her dress, & pulled. This strip of coin-laden fabric went to the other. Bareheaded & w/a ragged hem, she #resumed walking.
