Baker’s lung (or #BakersAsthma) is a common occupational #respiratorydisease caused by #inhaling allergens, particularly #flourdust, enzymes, and mold, leading to symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness.

It primarily affects bakery workers, with 15–21% of them potentially experiencing these symptoms, which often improve away from work. #health

  5. Respiratory disease public health medicine science folklore progress:

There are spirits in bad air that make you sick.

There are germs. (Magically) very few of them float in the air enough to make you sick.

    Well actually this one does.

    But lets not address that.

    JFK Jnr arrives.

    Let's stop vaccination.

  6. September 2025 is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month. This is a devastating diagnosis for anybody and their family to cope with. It's what my Dad died from, after a very sudden diagnosis, when the disease was already well advanced. An extremely cruel and under appreciated disease. actionpf.org/get-involved/awar #PulmonaryFibrosis #Medicine #Health #PublicHealth #RespiratoryDisease

  7. This morning I felt the brain fog drifting in. Out of curiosity, I checked my Apple Watch to see what my blood oxygen levels were. Maybe they'd been bad overnight? No, they'd been good.

So I checked my current blood oxygen levels. They were down to 88%. Yikes!

I spent the next few minutes doing square breathing. I tested again and my blood oxygen was up to 98%. My banks of brain fog dissipated.

What the heck? Do I just stop breathing or something and that's why I can't think for shit? What is this nonsense?

The next time I have bad brain fog, I'll check my blood oxygen levels again. #BrainFog #BloodOxygen #RespiratoryDisease

  8. The air is "good" but I don't feel great. I'm once again tired and headachey. I watered my garden this morning, but I don't think I'll be going outside again until it's rated "excellent." Yesterday the air was good and I felt great. Correlation or causation? Hmm. #ClimateDiary #AirQuality #RespiratoryDisease

  9. This morning I went for my annual lung checkup. My lung capacity is down a negligible amount, but is rated as excellent. My asthma is well-controlled because I am healthy and medicate daily. A cold, RSV, flu, or COVID could change all that rapidly.

After my appointment, I went to an X-ray clinic to get my knees X-rayed, and although several people there were wearing masks, several people with nasty coughs were not wearing masks. I hope my N95 did its job. I threw it out as soon as I was out of the clinic. I don't understand why people are so inconsiderate. I don't care if it's "just a cold." I've had to go to the hospital on numerous occasions because a common cold put me in a breathing emergency.

If you're sick and you're not wearing a mask in public, you could very well disable or kill someone. Don't be a dick. Mask up.

  10. Yesterday was the international day for disabled people. I only know of one local event celebrating it, and it isn't accessible because attendees aren't being asked to wear masks. Also, it isn't being streamed. It claims to be accessible and inclusive.

I do not appreciate the irony.

  11. I went to high school in Nackawic, New Brunswick. Although it's in a gorgeous part of the province, I don't have many good memories. It smelled awful throughout my teens because of the pulp mill. When I went back there this morning to fill up the gas tank, even though it didn't stink, I started coughing. Big plumes of smoke rose up from the distant smokestacks. My coughing cleared up when we left the region. Coincidence? I think not. #AirPollution #NewBrunswick #RespiratoryDisease #breathing

  12. I’m feeling better every day and this is my fourth day testing negative for COVID. Looks like it was just a cold. I am very relieved. I didn’t need to take any cold medicine last night, and my brains are working better again. I feel very lucky that it didn’t go into my lungs. Still not sure where I contracted this. It’s only the second one I’ve had since 2019. Masking everywhere has been extremely beneficial for me that way. Before wearing masks, I was sick with colds all the time. #MaskUp #RespiratoryDisease

  15. I received my contributor copy of Arc Poetry. My poem “Original Sin” is on page 49. It looks at industrial poisoning and how I contracted respiratory disease. Copies can be purchased at arcpoetry.ca/ #poetry #disability #PoetsOfMastodon #RespiratoryDisease @indigenousauthor

  16. Guess who woke up sick? Argh. At least I’m testing negative. Staying in my room anyway. HEPA filters are blasting around the house. I hope it’s just a cold, but even those leave me sick for months sometimes and land me in emergency. My voice is very hoarse and my ears are crackling a little. If it’s a cold, I hope it doesn’t go down into my chest. #RespiratoryDisease #MaskUp

  17. The air has been bad all summer and it’s been making me unwell. I’m back to using my emergency puffer a few times a week when before all the air pollution, I used it once every few months. I’d hoped that October would herald cleaner air, but it’s just as bad as the summer, and the temperature is way too high for this time of year. It’s predicted to hit 28 degrees today. I have to be out all afternoon for a doctor’s appointment. I’ll be wearing a mask everywhere in this suffocating heat. Previously, this is the time of year for heavy frost and I’d be wearing wool sweaters. I want to go camping on Halloween weekend. Please let the air be clean by then. Please let it be cool. I want to breathe easily and have energy. #ClimateDiary #CanadaWildfires #ClimateCatastrophe #RespiratoryDisease

  18. The air is poison today so I wore my mask for my entire workout. I don’t know how firefighters do all that training with respirators on, but I’m possibly gonna find out. I wore a mask while running, biking, doing about 150 walking lunges, a heap of Nordic curls, knee raises, and a bunch of high crossbody box step-ups. I wore a mask yesterday for a 5km cross country hike. Wearing a mask while training is a heck of a handicap. I feel like I’m doing everything while carrying a sandbag. It’s a lot harder for me to regulate my breathing because the fitted piece going over my nose feels like it’s cutting off some of my nasal airways, and I end up sucking wind through my mouth instead. That’s not great for my asthma, but neither is this poison air. I just pace myself as best as I can. #RespiratoryDisease #Asthma #ClimateDiary #MaskUp #CanadaWildfires #Fitness

  19. I have a medical procedure coming up and had to answer a questionnaire. Among other things, I was asked if I have problems with “blenching”. I looked that word up, but can find no definition. There was also no way for me to request feedback, so I’m left wondering if they meant belching, blanching, or something else altogether. Ugh. Also, I was asked if I experience headaches, gut issues, congestion, coughing, etc. The answer is yes. Those are all part of a normal day for me. Oh, the joys of having chronic health issues which match up with COVID symptoms. Just to be sure, I tested myself, and came up negative. #ChronicHealthIssues #ChronicPain #RespiratoryDisease #IBS #Migraine #PostnasalDrip #InvisibleDisabilities #MaskUp #Proofreading

  20. Today I went to the gym, walked to the library to record some voiceover work for McMaster University, walked to the hospital to comfort an ailing friend, and walked home again. All on a hot day while wearing a mask. … except for when I recorded the voiceover work. I was in a small sound booth by myself for that. I hope the air circulation was good. ~11km of walking and working out in poison air because Canada is on fire. I live in a seriously fucked-up timeline. #ClimateDiary #CanadaWildfires #RespiratoryDisease #Pyrocene

  21. For the first time this week, the air is not poison in Kitchener. I don’t think this will last more than a couple of hours. I plan on going to the gym while I can. I’ve been cooped up in my room with a HEPA filter all week. #ClimateDiary #AirQuality #CanadaWildfires #RespiratoryDisease

  22. I wanted to do to a two-spirit powwow today, but the air is poison so I didn’t. And now I have a bad toothache. I may need to get a tooth pulled. Why does this happen on a long weekend right before I go on a trip to see my parents in PEI? Argh. My sister and her kids are coming to visit tomorrow, and I’m afraid I’ll be in too much pain to enjoy the visit. My teeth are a disaster, but I’ve only had to have two fillings this year. A few years ago, I needed 13 in one year. #ChronicPain #InvisibleDisabilities #RespiratoryDisease

  23. The air is mildly poisonous today, but it’s not super hot, so I will attempt going to the gym in my mask. I feel miserable doing physical training while wearing a mask, but the training is good for my muscles and bones. Still, I’m not looking forward to this. #ClimateDiary #RespiratoryDisease #InvisibleDisabilities #CanadaWildfires #MaskUp #FitAfter50

  24. No more gym for me until next week, I think. The air is poison again, and I’m back in lockdown. At least I took advantage of the good air days with hiking, gym, kayaking, and gardening. I still have some harvesting to do. I’ll wear a mask to do it. #AirQuality #ClimateDiary #CanadaWildfires #RespiratoryDisease #MaskUp

  25. My performance at Tribally Yours in 2007. I was in the midst of a terrible asthma attack throughout this performance, and no one had a clue because the show must go on. I was barely breathing the entire time. When I got off stage, I basically collapsed. The smoke machine at the venue is what triggered it. It took me over a month to recover, and the people I was traveling with thought I was faking being sick. #InvisibleDisabilities #RespiratoryDisease #Asthma #Dance #Dancer #Poi #Floorwork #BellyDance #AndroidLust

  26. The air quality has been good for the past week, but is about to take a horrible dip into the poisonous again. This scares the crap out of me. I’m supposed to have a dentist appointment on Monday. I might have to cancel so I don’t get air poisoning. The world is on fire. #RespiratoryDisease #Asthma #MaskUp #ClimateDiary #CanadaWildfires
