  1. Has the climate affected your health?

Have you been to a hospital for wildfire smoke inhalation? Have you experienced exhaustion or suffered from a heat wave? Have you or a loved one felt ill or experienced asthma from air pollution? Have you been evacuated from floods or fires and needed mental health support?

Ontario and climate investigations reporter Carl Meyer is looking to connect with people who have experienced health issues that may be related to a changing climate. If you’d like to share your story with Carl for potential inclusion in an upcoming feature, please get in touch with him at [email protected].

  2. Once again displaying #CovidWastewater on my #NYC #RespiratoryIllness dashboard!

For a while I embedded the #COVID #wastewater Tableau chart from the New York State Department of Health. But I had to update it manually, and it got out of date.

Now the NYC Department of Environmental Protection seems to be reliably updating the city's Open Data portal with the most recent data!

Counts have been low lately; let's hope it's a while before the next wave!

  3. Unbelievable. Guess what incredibly effective strategy is not even mentioned in this article. 🙄😡

WEAR A MASK!!! This isn’t rocket science ffs. I just can’t even anymore.

  4. Since the day after Thanksgiving, when we spent two days with up to 14 people, including school-age kids, we have been sick. I still feel just as bad today as I did when this started. (I also have asthma.)

According to this infographic, it's probably just a bad cold.
(Negative COVID tests. We are COVID and flu vaccinated as well.)

If you get sick, this chart could help you figure out what's causing your symptoms.

  5. #CDC staff are openly revolting against the #Trump admin & #RFKJr *leadership*.

CDC leaders who resigned said RFK Jr undermined #vaccine #science, risking lives.

Dan Jernigan, helped oversee the CDC’s #InfectiousDisease response; Deb Houry, the chief #medical officer; & Demetre Daskalakis, the agency’s top #RespiratoryIllness & #immunization official, resigned their posts at the CDC in protest after its director was fired.

  6. No mention of airborne disease spread or respirators, only hand hygiene. 🤡 I know lots of Covid-competent folks who could demonstrate N95s and explain ventilation/air filtration! 😷 💨
“Alberta Children’s Hospital is desperately seeking new volunteers for an infection prevention education program. ‘We go into the patient’s room and meet with the family to discuss the importance of why we do hand hygiene and how germs can spread.’” #InfectionPrevention #RespiratoryIllness #AirborneDisease #Covid

  7. X is terrible, but after the Meta news on explicitly allowing transphobia / transmisia, overall it's just been a tough week.
Idk what I have but my asthma attack started last week. Elevated neutrophils indicate bacterial infection, my GP said? So either it was "probably viral" like the OoH 111 GP said and became bacterial as well, or I was unlucky that it was bacterial to begin with.

I've been on Prednisolone, a corticosteroid since the 9th; then last night I started Doxycyline, an antibiotic, and Montelukast.
Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist, so it blocks leukotrienes, my patient pamphlet says.

Got a chest X ray out of it, at least. (Had back pain behind my ex-gallbladder since its removal anyway.)
Let this be a lesson not to lessen your mask discipline or stubbornness when other people peer pressure you to take risks with your health.
This is my first asthma exacerbation in a decade and I do not want to continue experiencing this. I do not recommend it. The people telling me I was 'paranoid', 'over-thinking it', 'worried about nothing' and more do NOT have to feel what I am feeling.

Teenage boys in public who choose to whine at me and intentionally coughing towards me (what?!!?) is super aggressive, creepy, entitled, and harmful to everyone witnessing that. Still, my upper and mid back has not stopped aching. I don't get fevers and I don't have a cough. Only you know your body.

Some people choose to care about harm reduction; others don't. Do right by yourself and do your sustainable best by others. I believe in you!

  8. Fellow asthma non-enjoyers:
Pls carry your inhaler. Please USE your inhaler.
PLEASE wear an FFP3 respirator, ideally reusable with filters.

Please GO TO A&E / CALL AN AMBULANCE if your reliever / rescue inhaler does not resolve your symptoms.

    You WILL die one day.
You can postpone that day (and some disablement until then) with prompt action.

(Also, SEE YOUR GP after breathlessness or symptoms that are severe even to make you consider a hospital visit.
Your respiratory / chronic disease nurse needs to know.
You may benefit from a course of short-term steroids.)

  11. When I catch a cold, I will most likely also end up with a raging, painful sinus infection that only a 10-day course of antibiotics will kick. Even then, I might relapse & end up sick for a total of 6 weeks.

    It's a BUMMER.

    #DeviatedSeptum doesn't help.

So I'm always curious about preventatives, hence my question about #ProvidoneIodine #NasalSpray.

  12. Please boost! 🤘🖖

Anybody know anything about povidone iodine nasal spray as a treatment for #ChronicSinustitis?
    Asking for a me. 😁

My chronic sinusitis mainly manifests as constant slight congestion & post-nasal drip. 9 times out of 10 when I catch a cold, the increased fluid build-up makes me susceptible to a bacterial infection....

  14. #Dogs are coming down with an unusual #RespiratoryIllness in several #US states

    By DEVI SHASTRI
    Updated 7:09 PM EST, November 17, 2023

"Veterinary laboratories in several states are investigating an unusual respiratory illness in dogs, and encouraging people to take basic precautions to keep their pets healthy as veterinarians try to pin down what’s making the animals sick.

"#Oregon, #Colorado and #NewHampshire are among the states that have seen cases of the illness, which has caused lasting respiratory disease and #pneumonia and does not respond to antibiotics. Symptoms of respiratory illness in dogs include coughing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge and lethargy. Some cases of the pneunomia progress quickly, making dogs very sick within 24 to 36 hours.

"The Oregon Department of Agriculture has documented more than 200 cases of the disease since mid-August. It has encouraged pet owners to contact their vet if their dog is sick and told state veterinarians to report cases as soon as possible. The agency is working with state researchers and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory to find out what is causing the illnesses.

"Dogs have died, said Kurt Williams, director of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University. But without a clear way to define the disease or test for it, he said it’s hard to put a number on how many died from a severe form of the infection."
