The Black Lions (Tikur Anbessa) were a resistance movement formed to fight against Fascist Italy during it's occupation of the Ethiopian Empire. They took their name from the Black Lion of Judah, a symbol of Ethiopian Imperial Sovereignty. After an unsuccessful attempt on an Italian military officer's life in 1937 many of the member were executed + the organization disbanded.
