  1. A vacancy for a senior management role at #FutureEarth requires a PhD and “strong international scientific credibility”.

There it is again: the assumption that, to manage scientists, you need to be one.

  2. I may not be able to resist writing a critique of this vacancy in the coming days: futureearth.org/future-earth-s

I have been out of international #ResearchManagement for several years, but the persistent myth that managing scientists requires you to be a scientist is clearly still alive.

With very few exceptions, most of the brilliant scientists I worked with were poor managers.

  11. "Why Integrators Belong Nowhere. Integration expertise exists in universities and policy work, so why can’t institutions recognize or resource it?" rubenbaetens.substack.com/p/tw Great reflections by Ruben Baetens on a world I worked in for many years. #SciPol #SciCom #Researchmanagement

  12. Conflating "Responsible Metrics" with "Responsible Assessment" is a common strategic error in research management.

Responsible Metrics focus on data sources and quantification (the technical side). Responsible Assessment focuses on institutional processes, ethics, and people (the political/governance side).

Adopting better data tools (like OpenAlex) without reforming decision-making cultures is not a solution. It is often just a way to make the same mistakes using better data.

My latest analysis on why this distinction is critical for policy design: copdeb.com/2025/12/22/diferenc

  14. "New group of scientists announced to help to draft the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report" #GSDR #UN un.org/sustainabledevelopment/

This brings me back to a long-standing frustration from my #researchmanagement years: This list of individually perfectly fine researchers (I assume, know only one well myself) has one major flaw: If you want diversity do it properly! IPCC had similar challenges.
