  10. @bisping Thanks for this, it definitely resonates with some vague notions I've long had about the #science business. You end on a kind of pessimistic note, but IMO you had a good drift before that: I think the filters definitely need to be updated. The filters for publications, and for people. This should probably have been done long before the advent of #AI. I'd love a world in which "papers" are mostly interactive data analysis reports, standardized very strictly to be reproducible (and replicable with new samples). I'm speaking as a life scientist, but that would make meta-analyses so much easier to conduct, and any malpractice short of literal data fabrication easier to detect. Concept papers should come as models already set in math formulas (or even as ready-coded modeling pipelines). Then the job of a reviewer would be more standardized in some ways (test the code and outputs with tools you can mostly re-use across different submissions), and deeper in other ways: Find out if the datasets are real. This would involve looking at, e. g., participant recruitment plans and payment slips, and being a contact for whistleblowers. Ofc, this would have to be squared with blind reviewing in some way. As for filtering real from fake experts for jobs etc.: This would, and should always have been, an in-depth process of reviewing someone's publications, their teaching evaluations and their own reviewer activity. Yeah, it takes longer, but in exchange, scientists below professor status could just be given long-term contracts, to reduce the number of times an institution has to do this arduous hiring process per year ;)
    Science is about understanding and building things in the real world, and so I think the ultimate quality test for everything/everyone in science is how concretely they tie themselves to reality and can be reliably and reproducibly checked at any time. Which is antithetical to everything #LLM. This is my little puritanical science utopia ;)
