#RescueDogsOfMastodon10 years ago, we had a wonderful foster named Hunter. He was severely emaciated, practically hairless due to demodex mange and had zero training. He went on to adopt a young boy named Owen and lived another 9 years with this family.
"Hunter is teaching us. He has taken to standing over Micky, which leads to some rather rough play on Hunters part (poor Micky!) So we have not been allowing it--zero. Today he tried a couple times. We tried a much less loud approach, leading him off by the collar, and having him sit next to Micky. Both times he did fine. The third time was here, as Micky was in the couch. All I said was "Hunter, off." He got down, then got up next to his friend in the sunny spot. Hunter needs calm, consistent, teachable moments.

This is a tears inducing photo of my best ever dog Micky. Today is the 5th anniversary of his passing. For some reason this one hit me a lot harder than the other years. Sheesh. He was something special.
A wiggle butt, happy to see any person or dog, even cats, but especially puppies. We helped run a dog rescue and he was a natural temperament tester for all the new rescues. He just KNEW what to do,

This is a recounting of one day several years ago, when we had two foster dogs, and our regular three. They were all 75 pounds; Mac was a big, white, goofy, deaf boy, Groceries had just become our foster. Micky, Zeus and Finn were our two boxers.
"Holy crap....this house. Four dogs in living room, three up and Micky laying down by me...the washer begins to spin...the plastic gate in the kitchen falls over right onto Mac's head---the deaf one--he never heard it coming and didn't react at all to it hitting him on the head----meanwhile, Finn, Zeus, and Grosh freaking took off like the world had just ended...Micky became alert, but didn't get up. Finn and Zeus were like "Holy crap, those damn gates are haunted right now."
I tell 'ya...it's a zoo here."

Perfectly Imperfect. Each of these four Pitt mixes have a "defect" or two, but our rescue got them, repaired what needed to be fixed and found them homes. They are all in my family, the middle two are ours, the earless black one is my son's and the shepherd looking one is my daughter's.

This is our boy the day after he arrived. Decompressing is a VITAL role in fostering. Our rescue has seen it over and over---fostering will NOT work until the dog is over it's journey to you.
Franklyn has fused elbows and he became a foster fail---he is 4 now. He was about 8 months old here---dumped on the side of the road in rural GA., by a backyard breeder. -

Sunshine, aka Sunny, had her spay yesterday and is 'chillin' in the sun with her housemates. She is a "wobble dog" meaning she has tremors and appears very bouncy when alert. She's very sweet, and her one litter mate who had it, has stopped any 90% of it.

Meet Sunshine, our new foster. Her amd her siblings are "wobble dogs." She was onevof ninesiblings, and arbiter rescue took the 7 who didn't have this odd thing. We took the two that did, because THAT'S what we do.
Her brothers wobble has stopped, mostly, and doc's think once she is spayed, her wobbling will cease as well. Evidently, its not neurological. Strange, right?
She's settling in, not a fan of collar, but the harness works great, happy to follow with encouragement.

This is our rescue, Franklin. He is mixed breed bully boy. He was born with his elbows fused, so he's a full time low rider in the front! He knows no different, can run and climb stairs in his own way. Very fast over short distances, like his owner! He is four. Found at 4 months in the side of a rural GA road.
