  1. Our wonderful attendees, helpers and instructors just concluded the two @thecarpentries workshops - #rstats and #python - as part of #ResBazQLD! Thanks to everyone involved in introducing researchers to the fundamentals of programming. 💚
Now onto an afternoon of keynotes!

  2. One day to go!
Excited to see 300+ people gathering tomorrow at QUT Kelvin Grove for #ResBazQLD 2026! 🎉

Our 4th keynote is Amanda Miotto's:

"How to make the world just a little bit better"

    In her own words:

"Building public trust is key to transforming research into meaningful impact. This talk will explore how effective data storytelling and communication, robust reproducible research practices, and fostering diversity in decision-making can help establish and maintain trust in research."

Currently Science Leader at the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Amanda has been instrumental in the history of ResBaz, and it's such a treat to have her come back to ResBaz to close the show! ♥️

"Sovereignty as practice: Rethinking research from Indigenous standpoints"

Celise is a proud Wadjigan woman (Batjamalh language group), artist and researcher. Her practice brings together cultural heritage, archives and storytelling to trace connections between memory, materiality and Indigenous knowledge systems.

Her keynote address will explore Indigenous sovereignty as enacted through everyday research practice. Drawing on Indigenist principles, it considers how methods, citation and scholarly practice can either reproduce colonial frameworks or uphold Indigenous authority, relational accountability and knowledge integrity.

  10. Great to hear #Queensland Chief Scientist Hugh Possingham follow his acknowledgement of country with a proper and sincere acknowledgement of privilege.
    #ResBazQld

  11. Excited about #EcoCommons being launched soon(-ish, next year), integrating and building upon a lot of tools to empower ecologists. I've been lucky enough to help out at a couple of #RStats training sessions offered in the lead up to the launch.

    ecocommons.org.au/

Thanks Elisa Bayraktarov for presenting it! #ResBazQld @rstats

  12. Paul Andrea Martinez from #ARDC presenting on “Research Software Visible, Citable and Sustained”.
Great to have Paula lead the discussion around #researchSoftware sustainability and recognition.

Slides (with many great references and links) are here: zenodo.org/record/5720704

  13. Still a lot of unfortunate conflation between #OpenAccess and #OpenData. Or even between the whole of the #OpenScience umbrella term and parts thereof.
Chief Scientist Cathy Foley is leading an (welcome) Open Access push, not an Open Data push (even if they are quite linked), as far as I know.
    #ResBazQld

  14. Tim Sherratt is telling us about the project "The Real Face of White #Australia"

    realfaceofwhiteaustralia.net

"The White Australia Policy was about people – people whose lives were monitored and restricted because of the colour of their skin. This experimental browser enables you to explore the records of the White Australia Policy through the faces of those people."

    #ResBazQld

  15. @sam_hames looking at the embarrassing past of web design, talking about creating your own small web archive, and exposing the complex innards of modern web pages. #ResBazQld

  16. If you're in #Meanjin/Brisbane, or not too far, there's a great, super-cheap conference on research + digital skills at UQ at the end of November: ResBaz QLD 2021. Probably my favourite, relaxed, small conference.
Lots of great talks and workshops, especially related to early-career researchers, #eResearch, #openSource tools, #OpenScience, #skillSharing... 💗

I've been more or less involved in them over the years. I really recommend joining.
