  1. Bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous chemical in plastics, impairs male reproductive function through oxidative stress, but paraprobiotics like heat-treated Enterococcus faecalis (FK-23) can successfully counteract this damage and restore sperm motility.

  11. 🧵 1/ Female #ReproductiveBiology is, unfortunately, notoriously understudied.

So maybe it’s no surprise that a supposedly useless ‘developmental leftover’ in the ovaries could turn out to be...not so useless after all.

  12. Researchers have identified an ancient molecular key crucial for sperm to unlock and fertilize an egg, offering new insights into reproduction. This discovery could lead to breakthroughs in fertility treatments and contraceptive development. Understanding these fundamental processes reminds us of the shared biological legacy across species. #ReproductiveBiology #Science #Innovation

  13. Got feedback on my #ReproductiveBiology biology essay today. Even though I used grammerly to try and get it well done, most of my feedback equated to sentence structure and whether I hyphenated a word or used a capital letter. Also that my language was too ‘colloquial’. No comments on the actual content of my essay, and whether I understood the assignment. It has really dented my confidence. :(

  14. Happy Tootin Tuesday ❤️

Much to work on today, including a lab report, a “wiki” page, and then there’s a practical this afternoon on prenatal diagnosis of genetic diseases.

    Should be an interesting day.

    What do y’all have planned?

  15. I hate writing the introduction to essays, I never know what to say. I feel the whole “tell them the problem, tell them what you’re going to tell them” intro is repetitive and weird.

    Help?

  16. I really like my essay tutor, but he has started to get vague in his answers to my question. I guess I’m getting close to what I need to write about.
I just need to work out how to describe Derivation of sperm cells from ES cells and iPS sells. 😬 #ReproductiveBiology #InVivo #StemCells #MaleInfertility

  18. Happy Sunday Mastodon.
Sundays are for #studying, and today I’ll be using most of my time gathering reviews and papers for my essay:
“Discuss the pros and cons of using ES cell derived sperm as a solution to the problem of male infertility”

If anyone in @academicchatter has recommendations that would be amazing, otherwise it’s head down for me #Research #ReproductiveBiology #MaleInfertility #StemCells

  22. Nice overview of the history and current state of assisted reproductive technology (ART).

"Parenthood is now possible for people who never imagined it in their futures, including same-sex couples and single parents, thanks to such refinements as egg donors, surrogacy and the successful freezing of eggs, sperm and embryos."
