Quarto Manuscript makes me almost want to write scientific articles again. This could potentially change the process quite a lot. But maybe there is also a good use for it in internal project reports. https://quarto.org/docs/manuscripts/ #quarto #reproduciblescience #shareyourcode

Just updated my 'Species Distribution Modeling in GRASS' reader 📘. Right in time for our upcoming module for my 'Earth, data-analysis and visualization students at #HASgreenacademy 😅
Mostly small changes about the organization of results. The least exciting part of modeling, but it can absolutely mess up your workflow if not done right. Hopefully this lands before students learn that the hard way. 🤔

@pjotrprins There's some really interesting knowledge for anyone using #guix in here! Nice job team! I just read some about #containers and #postgres - super useful for general users as well as #reproduciblescience

@thatdnaguy
"As a field, we’ve incentivized poor proxy metrics instead of research rigor. The increasing number of published papers and retractions makes it crucial to support and incentivize research rigor instead. One part of rigor is maintaining original, unaltered data that underlie key results. Researchers often don’t understand what constitutes original data or how to preserve it for future use. This job may then fall on collaborators with more expertise in informatics."

Working on the first #LiteratureReview paper of my PhD, it stroke me that besides #GoogleScholar the commonly recommended search interfaces #WebofScience and #Scopus are behind paywalls. What are the alternatives if you want to support #openscience and #reproduciblescience in an interdisciplinary study?

« Five creative ways to promote reproducible science
The importance of reproducible scientific practices is widely acknowledged. However, limited resources and lack of external incentives have hindered their adoption. Here, we explore ways to promote reproducible science in practice. »
Sorry, I cannot say more because of access options: “Buy this article”!
Who tells to the authors the first way to promote #ReproducibleScience is to make all accessible? In practise!

@renku has an awesome new feature! Add *almost* any cloud storage to your project - including, for example, any WebDAV share from the #ethz library or any Next/Owncloud based shared storage like #SWITCHDrive. This makes is it even easier to make your #opendata live on together with code and a live compute environment or simply to align the whole team behind the same data sources.

This article sets a high bar with guidelines to achieve reproducible science. Most colleagues would not (or could not) meet it. It is unrealistically complicated. Why not just produce well documented, properly formatted, and web-accessible data for every study? Other researchers will use their own methods & code to validate findings using the data. Requirements to publish functioning code creates a barrier to open science.
