@Rebecca SieberAber im Fediverse ist es sooo schlimm, weil man "belehrt" wird, dass es nicht nur Mastodon gibt. Ich kann's wirklich nicht mehr hören.
Die Leute auf Mastodon haben sich einfach gewöhnt an ihr schönes, liebes, nettes, kuscheliges, flauschiges, einheitliches Mastodon-Fediverse, das Gargron 2016 (oder 2022) als in sich geschlossenes Netzwerk erfunden haben soll. Oder sie gewöhnen sich gerade daran. Genau so wollen sie es also haben.
Erstens haben sie zuerst den Begriff "Mastodon" gelernt und müssen sich jetzt nicht nur die Mühe machen, auch "Fediverse" zu lernen, sondern dann auch noch zu lernen, daß diese Begriffe nicht gleichbedeutend sind.
Zweitens empfinden sie alles im Fediverse, was nicht Mastodon ist, als störend. Überhaupt, der Gedanke, ihr schönes flauschiges Mastodon-Fediverse mit irgendwas teilen zu müssen, was nicht das schöne flauschige Mastodon ist, ist zutiefst verstörend. Das wollen sie nicht. Das soll wieder weg. (Wobei "wieder" Quatsch ist: Friendica und Hubzilla, zwei der "schlimmsten Störenfriede", waren vor Mastodon im Fediverse.)
Na ja, und drittens empfinden sie jede Erklärung, nach der sie nicht ausdrücklich gefragt haben, als übergriffig und Fedisplaining und Reply-Guying oder gar Mansplaining. Aber buchstäblich niemand von ihnen würde je auf die Idee kommen zu hinterfragen, ob das Fediverse wirklich nur aus Mastodon besteht. Das steht für sie außer Frage, bis sie das Gegenteil erfahren.
Übrigens gilt man auf Mastodon vielfach schon als Reply-Guy, wenn man jemandem antwortet, der einen nicht vorher erwähnt hat und mit dem man auch nicht beidseitig verbunden ist. Wohlgemerkt, auf Friendica und hier auf Hubzilla, wo Konversationen völlig anders funktionieren und Kommentare völlig anders verteilt werden als auf Mastodon, ist das ein ganz normaler Vorgang.

Opinion: Reply Guys are often #trolls, though their argument style is intended to copy a non-troll style.
The argument style comes, I think, from forums in which people (mostly men) discuss or argue about technical or scientific topics.
Reply Guy trolls are mimicking someone else's "honest engagement" cultural norms in an attempt to infiltrate conversations where they have no intention of engaging honestly. When they drop into conversations where those cultural norms dominate (e.g., much of #reddit circa 2012) it's harder to recognize what they are doing. When they comment in other forums they stand out like a sore thumb.

I tend not to agree with Cleaver Greene from Rake often, but he has a point about people (ReplyGuys) who use "Correct" in conversation..

One of the fresh hells of mastodon reply guy that I've not encountered anywhere else is their need to make a comment on a post to simply define a term I've used.

It reminds me of having a conversation with an adult when a child's present and the child piping up with some tangentially related trivia because they want to be part of the conversation too - except they're a child, so it's understandable they do that.

CW: Long ramble about Mastodon's "snowbirds"
The people who run over here whenever #Twitter has an issue only to jump right back when the smoke clears are going to end up with fewer and fewer #engagements the more they repeat that routine.
What I have discovered about #Mastodon is it is entirely about conversing. Over on the #birdsite these people would just label folks who embraced commenting on public posts as "reply guys"... as if there was something wrong with daring to intrude on their timelines.
Over here I've realized we're all basically #replyguys and that's how it functions. This place is like an old school #BBS or forum and those were entirely based on chatting it up with anyone who said anything that remotely interested you.
So these #snowbirds who rush over here, post a few things, then disappear again are going to see dwindling numbers for their backup account.
Why would people here continue to waste time on folks who have made it clear they don't want to see your responses and -- even if they do -- are going to fart right off as soon as they can log back into the #algorithm?
After the last #TwitterOutage (the #RateLimit evening) I immediately flagged several accounts from there that had created something here and realized they were like the relative who only shows up when they need money.
Except it isn't $$$ for them, it's those sweet #notifications they want the #Fediverse to supply whole their regular hangout is being fumigated.
On the other hand, for every #ElonMusk ego-fart we do end up with some new people who embrace the difference. So not everyone who races to their password vault for their #instance's credentials is poorly-dressed Uncle Larry.
Anyway it's almost #caturday stateside so here's something for sticking around for this late night #ZZZQuil brain dump. Our big, doofy boy:
