#replies — Public Fediverse posts

I have someone showing up in my replies that is setting off my "that's hinky" detector.

Replies have good grammar and spelling, full sentence structure. They are in the same general subject area as the messages they are replies to, but they're just off a bit. Written as agreement when they're actually saying the opposite, or vice-versa, or off on a slight tangent in a weird direction... It's strange.

The account is not marked as being a bot. But it's starting to smell like LLM output, though my confidence level in that judgment is low.

If you met someone at a party like this, you'd probably make an excuse and go talk to someone else or use the bathroom or something. 🤷

People that #post something #publicly on the #fediverse/ #SocialNetworks in general, and then get pissed-off when someone #replies to them publicly, will never make sense to me.

@cheeaun @tchambers @box464 I don't think this provides the functionality that I was thinking of:

* Only show known replies by default
* User can request to show all replies, upon which they are fetched (spinner etc while fetching) and shown when they have been retrieved (or a certain threshold has been reached, after which more can be retrieved)

I think there are good reasons to do it this way. Gives user control and 'best' replies first.

@xiann haha, i think “straight up chronological” is the idea here. but it also means your timeline is everything from people you follow. maybe you only want to see their original posts and not #boosts or #replies? now you got me looking at the pref settings which i hadn’t done since i first set them up… on the web interface (at least on my instance anyway), i just found the “gear” at the top of the timeline allow you to toggle off boosts/replies. see if they make things more interesting for you.
