I fought to repeal the eight amendment in 2018, my mum fought to stop the eight amendment being added in 1983. I am so proud of how far we have come, and of continuing in her footsteps, but we have further yet to go. I am happy to see my colleague and party leader Roderic signing the Social Democrats bill to remove the three day wait period, decriminalise medical professionals, and finally stop women from having to travel outside the state.

@SecondUniverse This is a classic right-wing Christian argument:
It was deployed aggressively during the campaign ahead of the 2018 referendum to #Repeal the 8th amendment to the Irish constitution.
In that case, the argument failed: spectacularly. The referendum result was the largest landslide in voting history in Ireland - to say Yes to rejecting the 8th , and allow access to abortion.
However, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance ", so we can't take that for granted.

The Hope and Courage Collective have today published their first annual "Ireland in Focus" report. It finds that, in Ireland, "public attitudes are becoming steadily more inclusive, but political narratives – particularly on migration – are increasingly shaped by far-right framing."
As always, people are way ahead of politicians: just like #Repeal, #MarRef and so many other so-called "divisive issues."

He’s trying to make people think that it would allow abortion for any reason up until birth - when it wouldn't. This is to cover for the fact that he opposes abortion in any circumstances - even in cases of rape or fatal foetal abnormality.
