  1. I #repaired a #fitbit Charge 5 today by replacing the battery.

I feel like some kind of electronics god.

    SO SMOL!

  6. She’s back. Nice & clean too!

Right kn*bhead, listen carefully… when the beepie things go beep, beep, beep and especially beeeeeeeep… that doesn’t *only* mean your reverse sensors are working 😣 #pumast #fordpuma #fordpumast #bump #cleancar #repaired #likenew

  8. Additionally, it’s looking like there are some transistors gone too.

I see zero conformal coating on this, meaning moisture can get everywhere. What finally killed it was a broken automatic waterer, but still….

I think probably about 20 components need to be replaced in order to get this back to functioning, and I’m not entirely sure that that is worth my time. I would buy a OEM replacement, but frankly as the company that made this purchased it from a third-party, and I don’t seem to be able to buy it direct from either of them. I’m just gonna go with a third-party solution.

  13. OK, so now I know why my e bike stopped charging….

There’s a massive amount of corrosion. Luckily, I found a replacement online that didn’t have the correct connector. I repurposed the original connector on the new unit. SAdly, the new unit doesn’t have an NTC connection, so aill have to keep an eye on it to prevent overheating.

  18. Is there a FOSS alternatieve for the Samsung radio app? So it could be possible to listen to FM radio on e/OS custom ROM. It's for an old #repaired #deprecated #smartphone just making it usefull as anti #plannedobsolescence and it does have an audio jack :blobcataco:

  19. I finally decided to buy my first pair of #luxury #sunglasses from #rayban after spending decades wearing cheap stuff. The big reason is because Ray-Bans can be #repaired while cheap sunglasses cannot. So between the 20% discount I received and that little factoid, the purchase made sense. I believe strongly in #righttorepair as a way to keep goods out of the landfill and I appreciate having things that can reasonably be expected to stand the test of time. #fixit

  22. I #repaired my older/backup #MacBook Air — replaced the #keyboard which had liquid damage and the #battery which was wearing out — £150 all in, done in three hours close to the University. (Four keys has stopped working: Z, X, control and option.)

  27. Woohoo success! Look who's alive!
The #AM386 i soldered in my #QFP to #PGA socket seems fine, and also this #repaired motherboard is giving good signs of life!

  28. Okay, so here's what was wrong with it: there was no way it could turn on! The blue wires from the switch should have gone into the right-hand side of the power board, and the red and black wires need to go to the connector on the amp board. Switch it round, charge a battery for a bit from the 15 V input, and it works. And is LOUD!

  29. My favourite hammock for on our balcony broke and landed me on my ass, last month. Just got around to fixing it with parts of a new lashing strap that's rated for much more weight than me. The hammock itself is still in good shape, so this should last me some more years, now.

(I got the hammock from Kickstarter years ago, in a time when I was still fascinated by that website... kickstarter.com/projects/eleme)

  38. Looking back at the archive I downloaded from the #birdsite, I found some fun pictures. Those are from 2016, when I got a #Tektronix 576 curve tracer. It was designed to be #repaired! It even sported a roll of special soldering wire for the repairs. I love the notice "IT IS DESIRABLE THAT ONLY SILVER-BEARING SOLDER BE USED ON THE CERAMIC TERMINALS AND FOR THINNING THE IRON. ORDINARY TIN-LEAD SOLDER MAY BE USED BUT REPEATED USE WILL BREAK THE SOLDER TO CERAMIC BOND. SEE YOUR INSTRUCTION MANUAL"
