Okay, so here's what was wrong with it: there was no way it could turn on! The blue wires from the switch should have gone into the right-hand side of the power board, and the red and black wires need to go to the connector on the amp board. Switch it round, charge a battery for a bit from the 15 V input, and it works. And is LOUD!
