🧵 1/2: forever grateful to the #fediverse & @eugenialoli for posting she was installing #linux #mint in her sleep & getting me back to trying to install it on my old #macbookpro. I had tried back in April & ever since failed, so now rather than doubting myself i thought "could it be the #distro was 💩 ?"
And yes it was. DON'T TOUCH #ElementaryOS! I can't believe I managed now, going through feeling like Angelina Jolie in #hackers to despair & then elation. Couple of notes -->

Not only is today International Repair Day, it’s also launch day for The Repair App!

Repair should be the easy, default option and we're proud to be building something that helps make it so. Whether it’s your phone, computer, bike, or favorite pair of shoes, you can now use The Repair App to find a trusted local expert who can help.

Huge thanks to WIRED for sharing our story on launch day!

My friend is organising a Repair Day in #Granada this Saturday. If there's anyone out there who needs stuff fixed, or believes in the circular economy & the right to repair & wants to show support, please come, boost & share.

I'm hoping to bring some goodwill, screwdrivers, soldering iron, & a couple of USB pen drives (for anyone who wants to renew a no longer updatable Windows 10 or MacOS PC with brand new Linux).

Four weeks until @microsoft ends free support for Windows 10, making 400 million PCs obsolete as they are unable to upgrade to Windows 11.
And - ironically - it's happening on #EWasteDay... just days before International #RepairDay.

With our new starter kit, soon available in English too, you can easily set up your own Linux Repair Café. This way, you'll help visitors make the switch to open-source software—and together we'll save countless laptops from the scrap heap.

https://dashboard.repairmonitor.org/?language=de

We had a brilliant #RepairCafe for #InternationalRepairDay last Saturday. Our members and community fixers did repairs, saving all sorts from going to landfills.
