also, this is awesome... the owner is getting an estimate on putting insulation in the attic, which would be excellent. Would make the hot days we do get here sometimes probably very bearable in the apartment. Keep your fingers crossed that they decide to do it!

Timeline looks so grim. Eviction date approaches and the equation isn't equating. No available time to deal with everything in a way we don't lose out too much. Moving while working is brutal.
Oh, and our last week on College Rd will be also @UCC Freshers Week 😅 yeah gwan, add sleepless nights to the stress!

okay, just spent a chunk of time chatting with my apt's new owner (well, the owner's daughter but I think she's going to be the hands-on manager: the owners are remote) and...
such RELIEF
She was *very* nice, we chatted about a bunch of things, I even filled her in on some things I don't think she knew yet about the property, which she really appreciated, so it was all very very nice.
and she even floated whether I might be interested in signing another year lease (instead of month-to-month which I'm on now)
so the question is... do I see if they'd be willing to allow a dog? I was thinking I would bring it up but not for a while yet. 🤔

Was für ein Tag. Ausgeschlafen.

so I just discovered my toilet's leaking (at the base when you flush, ugh) so have called the landlord and hopefully their maintenance guy will be over soon. Timing is lousy I have rehearsal tonight which I really don't want to miss. But I don't feel like I know anybody in town well enough to ask them to come be here for the maintenance visit.
And why does stuff like this make me feel so unsettled? There's useful things I could be doing right now (rehearsing music, etc) but get very anxious about things like this and feel like I can't do anything but fret. Which has zero usefulness. So let me try and get myself out of this state.

The people purchasing the duplex I live in are here for the inspections. Very anxiety-producing, although I know whatever ensues, things will work out okay. They always have.
But I guess I very quickly got used to nobody living next door, and I'm going to miss that.
My bet, just based on what I've been able to glean, is that grandparents are buying this and the grandson (a young man) will live in one of the units. I guess the question is whether there's another family member they want to put in, and whether I'll have to move.
I'm pretty sure I have pretty good renter protection in this city and state, but I need to start research and make sure I know exactly what it is.

I installed the washer and dryer! (Having once been a homeowner comes in handy ☺️)
is a bit of a pain, the dryer vent to the outside is poorly situated so that with a standard size dryer there's no way to get the dryer back far enough, so it actually obstructs the swing of the back door a bit. I've been looking at lots of dryer vent options (the rectangular ducting, periscope, etc) but I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do about it.
(This is part of the reason I had held off buying washer+dryer: the compact ones are more expensive, as are the more-efficient ones. But since these were free [yes FREE!] I'm going to live with this)

It’s this way in Arizona. There are few practical protections to protect renters in Arizona. I’ve never known a friend renting here who has not had the same loony fees as upcharges and variable upcharges. Here are 2 such: friend had to pay $5 a month convenience fee to use the required app to pay rent OR they could get a cashiers check and make an appointment during office hours to deliver it.
And the gated complex charges a $5 a month fee to have a card to be able to enter a gate by scanning the card. If no card, the renter would have to enter a code in a security reader. But these readers were frequently faulty and the renter would have to wait to enter until another renter with a functioning card had to enter. There were a few gates that a pedestrian wanting to exit had no reader to EXIT so a renter would have to go to another gate to exit. #Renter #Rent #Lease #Arizona

Hey, if you're tempted to put holographic vinyl up on your shower... here's the sign to do it.
This was about a 20 minute install, renter safe (it sticks on with water and just peels off) and super easy.

~UNEMPLOYMENT GOTHIC~
~~continued~~OCTEC refuse to transfer me, saying that they can't do it. I explain that they can, and they insist that only DEWR can. I explain that centrelink told me that they can transfer me and that calling DEWR will mean hours on hold. The OCTEC guy explains that then transferring me means them filling out a form, giving it to me for Verto to also sign, then bringing it back for them, and then his manager signing it as well, and then the transfer will take place, and "I don't have time to do all that" ('all that' is literally his job).
I told him that centrelink said they wouldn't want to transfer me because it's losing money, and I just needed to demand it happens. I explain again that I was listed with them without discussion and that contravenes my rights. He says he doesn't have time for RIGHTS. I tell him I want the forms done, and he does them. It takes him less time to do that than he took explaining that he couldn't do them. I have no intention of getting them signed by Verto, I just wanted to make him do something.
So I go to Verto. They can't do anything, but suggest I call DEWR. It's 11.14am and I'm still on hold with DEWR at this point. They also explain that recently OCTEC lost their government contract for doing disability support services so I wouldn't be able to stay with them anyway, they'd just have to transfer me to Verto.
I get home. It's 12.07pm. I'm still on the phone with DEWR. The voice over tells me "Did you know, if you want to change your employment provider you can do so online through Workforce Australia". So I get online and change my employment provider. It's at a "pending" status, so I don't know if it actually worked.
I don't trust it, so I'm still going to talk to DEWR.
It's 13.12pm.
I'm still on hold.

~UNEMPLOYMENT GOTHIC~
Last night at 6.43pm I got a phone call from someone saying they were from centrelink. They asked me to verify my details by giving them my full name, date of birth, and address... which I refused to do.
I asked why they hadn't sent a letter to my my.gov email, and they said that it was a matter that's best dealt with via a phone call and that they couldn't go into it further unless I verified my details. I told them I'd go into centrelink today and talk to them.
So, today I go to centrelink. The issue is that I was exited from my disability support provider (who does nothing, btw) for having been with them for 12 months. So I had to be recommenced with a disability support provider.. fine, I was expecting this for a couple of months now, and I'd like to be put back with Verto.
Oh, the person who called me already put me on with OCTEC, without discussing it with me, and centrelink can't change it.
So, I get sent down to OCTEC to ask them to transfer me to Verto.. and while I'm waiting to see someone I phone the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) because I know that OCTEC is going to refuse to transfer me because every person they have on their books is money they get. It's 10.52am when the call connects.

Even with indexing, Jobseeker is 60% below the Henderson Poverty Line.
The Henderson Poverty Line is the minimum disposable income required for a household to maintain an "austere" standard of living.
If a household's income falls below the Henderson Poverty Line, they are considered to be in poverty.
Poverty is created by governments.
The Australian government continues to deliberately push unemployed people into severe poverty.
_____
"For singles over 22, jobseeker payments will increase by [$6.25 a week] , to a total of [$396.80 a week]."" But anti-poverty advocates argue the small rise in benefits will do little to help elevate the financial struggle millions of Australians are facing, calling for payments to be lifted in line with the Henderson poverty line of $660.72 a week for a single person."

Hi there, so for people #Renting apartments now or who have experience, I am looking for tips that I should be aware of as a first time #Renter. I'm moving out soon, and I know that for the most part, I will have to buy my own furniture, but how are things like paying the utilities done? My knowledge of renting tells me that a lot of companies only take checks or cash for paying the utilities, but is that really true nowadays? Do y'all have like a separate account for putting rent money in to each month or bi-weekly so that you can just send over the entire rent payment at once without having to worry, so like for example, I get paid bi-weekly, but i put half the payment in the first week in to an account and the second half the next time I get paid and it all just comes out when the rent is due? I am trying to learn strategies here so that I can rent successfully. I'm living independently for the very first time and I want to do it right. also, I am #Blind. but learning these strategies early is probably a good thing, because the less problems I have, the better.

Get yourself a submissive who's a carpenter..
I was having a bit of a complain to him yesterday that our shower has started losing its silicone sealing and water is starting to run out between the bottom of the shower screen and the tile flooring, and how much I hate having to approach the real estate for repairs like that because it is always a risk that the owners will decide to just sell because they are annoyed with organising repairs (especially with the housing market being so inflated atm).
He popped past this morning to have his cock cage locked up for the day, and took a look at it - "yeah, that'll take me about an hour to fix for you, if you'll let me?"
Let you? Baby, I'll have you do it naked while I watch with a crop in my hand. Let's make this fun for everyone involved..

We had our rental inspection this morning, I think it was fine but I won't know for certain until they get back to us and we resign the lease.
Did you know that renters in other countries don't have to jump through these hoops? That long term renting is normalised in other countries because renting isn't just seen as a step in the ladder to house ownership?
Australia has to do something, because fewer people are able to buy houses so will be renting their entire lives. Having a 6-monthly reminder (and often more frequently!) that you can be homeless at almost no notice because someone just feels like it is a leading cause of stress and has poor effects on both mental and physical health.
This is becoming worse now that home ownership is also seen as just a step in the property investment ladder, and that the goal is shifting from owning your own home to owning investment properties.

Next time you see the govt talking about the Australian road toll and "preventable deaths", consider they deliberately choose to do nothing to address poverty and houselessness.
_____Almost 1500 homeless Australians die prematurely each year. This family hopes the death of their loved one won’t be in vain
Advocates say they are struggling to place people experiencing homelessness in secure housing, resulting in preventable deaths.

CW: Rent, covid, vent
It is a landlord's world, and we are literally living in it.
I'm likely going to have move soon due to ridiculous rising #rents. Since 2020, the county restricted #rent raises because of #covid19. Now that the #pandemic is supposedly "over," that restriction is gone. The county also tried to pass a rent stabilization bill, but it has a massive loophole that exempts buildings that are 23+ years old.
I'm privileged enough that I can move and still stay in the trendy, urban, walkable area that I've lived in for almost a decade. But I often wonder how long can I hold on before the rent increases catch up to me and I'm priced out of the city I've come to love and call home?
The rush to declare #covid over, even as about 1,000 people in the U.S. are still weekly dying from it, is as much about abandoning us all from any government protections as it is an abandonment of #publichealth.
And it's going to get so much worse before it gets any better...
