OCTEC refuse to transfer me, saying that they can't do it. I explain that they can, and they insist that only DEWR can. I explain that centrelink told me that they can transfer me and that calling DEWR will mean hours on hold. The OCTEC guy explains that then transferring me means them filling out a form, giving it to me for Verto to also sign, then bringing it back for them, and then his manager signing it as well, and then the transfer will take place, and "I don't have time to do all that" ('all that' is literally his job).

I told him that centrelink said they wouldn't want to transfer me because it's losing money, and I just needed to demand it happens. I explain again that I was listed with them without discussion and that contravenes my rights. He says he doesn't have time for RIGHTS. I tell him I want the forms done, and he does them. It takes him less time to do that than he took explaining that he couldn't do them. I have no intention of getting them signed by Verto, I just wanted to make him do something.

So I go to Verto. They can't do anything, but suggest I call DEWR. It's 11.14am and I'm still on hold with DEWR at this point. They also explain that recently OCTEC lost their government contract for doing disability support services so I wouldn't be able to stay with them anyway, they'd just have to transfer me to Verto.

I get home. It's 12.07pm. I'm still on the phone with DEWR. The voice over tells me "Did you know, if you want to change your employment provider you can do so online through Workforce Australia". So I get online and change my employment provider. It's at a "pending" status, so I don't know if it actually worked.

I don't trust it, so I'm still going to talk to DEWR.

    It's 13.12pm.

    I'm still on hold.

  7. ~UNEMPLOYMENT GOTHIC~

Last night at 6.43pm I got a phone call from someone saying they were from centrelink. They asked me to verify my details by giving them my full name, date of birth, and address... which I refused to do.

I asked why they hadn't sent a letter to my my.gov email, and they said that it was a matter that's best dealt with via a phone call and that they couldn't go into it further unless I verified my details. I told them I'd go into centrelink today and talk to them.

So, today I go to centrelink. The issue is that I was exited from my disability support provider (who does nothing, btw) for having been with them for 12 months. So I had to be recommenced with a disability support provider.. fine, I was expecting this for a couple of months now, and I'd like to be put back with Verto.

Oh, the person who called me already put me on with OCTEC, without discussing it with me, and centrelink can't change it.

So, I get sent down to OCTEC to ask them to transfer me to Verto.. and while I'm waiting to see someone I phone the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) because I know that OCTEC is going to refuse to transfer me because every person they have on their books is money they get. It's 10.52am when the call connects.

The Henderson Poverty Line is the minimum disposable income required for a household to maintain an "austere" standard of living.

If a household's income falls below the Henderson Poverty Line, they are considered to be in poverty.

    Poverty is created by governments.

The Australian government continues to deliberately push unemployed people into severe poverty.

  20. We had our rental inspection this morning, I think it was fine but I won't know for certain until they get back to us and we resign the lease.

Did you know that renters in other countries don't have to jump through these hoops? That long term renting is normalised in other countries because renting isn't just seen as a step in the ladder to house ownership?

Australia has to do something, because fewer people are able to buy houses so will be renting their entire lives. Having a 6-monthly reminder (and often more frequently!) that you can be homeless at almost no notice because someone just feels like it is a leading cause of stress and has poor effects on both mental and physical health.

This is becoming worse now that home ownership is also seen as just a step in the property investment ladder, and that the goal is shifting from owning your own home to owning investment properties.

This is becoming worse now that home ownership is also seen as just a step in the property investment ladder, and that the goal is shifting from owning your own home to owning investment properties.

  25. Next time you see the govt talking about the Australian road toll and "preventable deaths", consider they deliberately choose to do nothing to address poverty and houselessness.

  27. Revenge of the #Renter

Hundreds of #tenants, struggling to afford skyrocketing rents, are refusing to pay their #landlords at all. They call it a #RentStrike. The landlords say it’s illegal. An inside look at the frontier of a growing #ClassWar

    Jason McBride November 9, 2023

"33 King was an inexpensive, aging highrise, but it was a bastion of affordability in a city that seemed to grow more expensive every year. In 2010, the couple moved into a two-bedroom apartment on the top floor that rented for less than $1,000. Two years later they had their first child, Xavier. [Their rent initially was $700 a month. It has more than doubled!]

"Then, in 2013, the landlord, a company called Realstar, informed Henry that her rent was going up that year by 5.5 per cent. She was confused. 33 King was rent-controlled—increases were capped in 2013 at 2.5 per cent. But there was a loophole: in Ontario, landlords can apply for what’s called an above guideline increase, or #AGI, to make major repairs. Realstar fixed the roof and elevators that year, so Henry thought it might be a one-off. When it happened again the next year, with an increase of 3.8 per cent, well above that year’s 0.8 per cent guideline, she and her neighbours were incensed. They’d long talked about deteriorating conditions in the building and regular maintenance that seemed to go undone. Some felt the AGIs were simply a way for #Realstar to boost the value of its asset by squeezing extra money out of its tenants.

"In 2017, Henry started working on the assembly line at a Chrysler plant in nearby Brampton, and became a member of Unifor. It was the first time she’d joined a union, and it was exciting to be part of a group of people banding together to fight for their rights. Energized by that experience, in 2018, she helped form a tenants’ association at 33 King to fight future AGIs. Still, they kept coming—in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

That year, a company called #DreamUnlimited, a #realestate giant with $23 billion worth of assets, bought 33 King. Because the 2019 and 2021 AGIs were still pending approval by Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board, or LTB, Dream inherited the applications. Henry and other tenants wasted no time making their feelings about them known to the new owners. Working with the York South-Weston #TenantUnion, or YSWTU—an umbrella organization for 13 tenants’ associations in the area—they staged protests, called Dream’s president, Michael Cooper, and went to the media in a bid to have the AGIs cancelled.

"The movement hasn’t come without consequences. Dream has initiated eviction proceedings for more than 70 tenants at 33 King, and Starlight has started them for 75 in Thorncliffe Park. More are likely to come, but the strikers have remained resolute, the fear of losing their homes outweighed by the impossibility of continuing the status quo.

"Their fights are just beginning. Tenant #activism is flaring across the country as renters face skyrocketing rents and deteriorating living conditions in the most brutal #housing market in memory. Whatever their outcome, the Toronto rent strikes are the latest, loudest volley in a brewing class war."

  28. Logged a maintenance request with my property manager, and the response was, "I have emailed the owner to ask if they want to rectify the matter".

Oh, sweetie, no. I'm not asking. I'm telling you to arrange a fix.

It's loose brick-work, it's actually kind of important for a building to, y'know, remain a building.

  29. Here is a weird post about #FreeWebHosting #culture that bridges 20+years.

iF I told you 'Hey, you should really look out for those #Tripod & #AngelFire web hosting users due to their #GangStalking #IDS, /s' from 20+yrs ago but just replaced the web hosting providers with #Instagram & #Facebook, what would you of thought about those #FreeWebHosting users today who are complacent with their #FreeWebHosting #culture of #GangStalking being #investigated
    🤔

🔮 : 🔎 Certain #ClosedWeb vs. #OpenWeb things would stand out due to Public Scrutiny. Why, aren't you using the #PeriodTrackingApp called #FacebookMessenger currently being used for tracking #Abortion related #crimes? Amazing things started to happen when the #ClosedWeb #SocialMedia place got #OpenWeb'D. Init? 👀👀 🔍

#PrivateFacebookForums made #Public and the list of names involved in #GangStalking is quite effective and prosecutors love using 18 U.S.C. Sec 241 to hand out 5, 10, 15 to Life Sentences for this #GangStalking behavior btw.

For one example of this #GangStalking behavior coupled with illegal #Surveillence by the #Landlord found by the residents of a whole neighborhood, btw:

.... What iF your #Landlord was disclosing when their #Tenants were leaving _their_ residence for coordination of #BreakIns using #SocialMedia to harass the #renter? That would be pretty stupid based on how #ediscovery at #Meta works.

🔎 WOT iF the #Police just looked the other way because this was under $10k of theft? WOT iF #BodyCam footage was correlated with #PoliceReports to uncover this? 💯🔍

    #FacebookMessenger is not #private

    #FunFact : #MarkZuckerburg lied to you about #privacy

He told you earlier in his career '#DumbFscks shouldn't trust #Meta.'

#MARCOM lied to you about #Privacy & #Advertising networks you call #SocialMedia. Duh.

Not everyone has a #Meta account

    Not everyone has a #Facebook

    Not everyone has an #Instagram

Not many people even know what a ' #Metaverse ' even IS let alone visit it outside of #Meta per the huge losses at the #VR #AR #MR division of #RealityLabs there in Menlo Park, CA.

#Prosecutors are already using this #OneWeirdMARCOM trick, 'saying everyone is on something ' when in fact, No, very few people ACTUALLY use this. Did you miss the #RICO documentary about #MarkZuckerburg in 2010 or something? 🤔

Now they are just weaponizing certain states laws on #abortion to go after your #Mothers and #Daughters for #abortions in #ListOfStates, btw. Read up on which states those #FreeWebHosting companies that are JUST #Advertising companies with #WebHosting btw, 💯, where YOU ARE THE PRODUCT being SOLD, data wise, since you don't pay them, obvs., except now in places in the EU, where they are looking at #OptingOutOfAdvertising & offering a #PaidWebHosting model, duh, due to #Regulations on certain things #ForcedConsent & otherwise, being completely illegal. #GDPR

  30. I think the rental inspection went ok (hopefully).

They were over an hour late, the owner attended as well. I got to chat to her about how she ended up with the house, and how it still belongs to her father who is in a nursing home, but he's put it in a trust for her. Hopefully this means that we'll be able to stay for a couple of years until we move to the UK.

  31. We have our first rental inspection in the new house on Tuesday, and I'm so anxious about it that I already can't sleep.

  32. We're getting a new dishwasher tomorrow (yay!)

The landlords are turning up with the plumber to install it (boo!)

I think it's an attempt to see how we've treated the house.. we moved in a month ago.

Hopefully meeting us in person will mean they are more settled about us living here and will leave us alone, and it doesn't start a habit of them thinking they can drop past when they feel like it.
