    But a staff report to the City of Victoria is recommending that council consider allowing developers to build micro-units in new projects with minimum standards in place.

    It’s an effort to create more units in a tight housing market, says Mayor Marianne Alto.

    Alto says the report will come before council at its next meeting and, if approved, would have to be incorporated into the city’s official community plan.

    Should we maybe have a law that says any one person or entity can only own a max of 2 houses? Or that you can only own 1 not being lived in by your immediate family?

    I can see several reasonable use cases for having 1 extra house, including when an old person dies and the family takes a while to decide what's happening with their previous house. And we could debate those cases, and maybe even decide it's not worth arguing over 2 or 3 extra, because that isn't the biggest problem.

    But I think we could possibly mostly agree that having one person or company own 5 or 10 or 50 or 500 houses just to extract profit from them is not good for overall wellbeing.

    ‘Sale of a property’ related eviction notices are terrible. More so, during the current housing crisis, and should be forced to include longer notice terms.

    The fact of the matter is that the decision to sell a property is one that involves a lot of planning.
    A lot of planning. It’s never something that is sudden or spur of the moment like other circumstances that lead to eviction.

    There’s also the fact that the current rental market is still very very difficult. The risk of ending up homeless after no-fault evictions is dramatically higher than ever. I’ve been hearing and handling so many cases of homelessness involving full-time employees or double-income households recently, it is absurd.

    So yeah, sure, Anthony as a landlord may have been respectful and lawful. But only meeting the minimal legal requirements, while supposedly knowing of the current housing crisis, is only ‘that much’ respectable.
