Any #typewriter buffs around here? My daughter inherited an old #Remington Monarch (not sure of what vintage, 1950s or later probably). Where do one get hold of replacement ribbons for these? I see references to Gr1 and Gr51, but can't really tell which is which, or if there are others.

They've got hold of a haul of ancient big iron in surprisingly good shape and they need funds to safeguard this rare machinery:
We are about to save an enormous quantity of extremely rare machines, some of which may be unique, dating back as far as 70 years.
Among the equipment to be saved are machines from both #IBM and #Remington #Rand for the creation and management of punch cards (one of the earliest methods of loading programs), huge #Sperry #Univac #mainframes complete with their tape units, disks, and printers, as well as the earliest #Olivetti systems. As a warmup for #TypewriterTuesday, here's my latest love, a quirky Remington No. 7 standard typewriter from the end of the 19th c., in need of much TLC. Quirky because the type bars hit the paper on the *underside* of the platen...meaning you can't see what you type (and we think texting with our thumbs is hard!).

You have no idea how much enjoyment this #remington #typewriter is giving me :) The noise of it clacking away, followed by the end of line bell, and then the ratchet as you move to the new line is like #ASMR to me.
