Trump energizes conservative Christians with new religious policies

Religious Nationalism as practiced in the USA is a danger to freedom and especially to minorities and the weakest sections of society.
We in Europe should be vigilant and prevent this development in our free and open Europe.

  10. Research found U.S. Christians who believe that God is benevolent, angry, and engaged tend to express stronger religious nationalism. In turn, stronger religious nationalism was associated with greater conspiracy mentality and higher levels of xenophobia. ✝️😡🤝🌍🕵️‍♂️

  11. Hey, this goes especially for #Hindus in #India, #Jews in #Israel, and (I guess still) #Christians in the #UnitedStates... Not every #Muslim is an extremist. Plenty of them are normal people. #ReligiousNationalism exists in nearly any faith in the world.

  12. We must find ways to move beyond all forms of #ReligiousNationalism if we are to build a #WorldCommunity in which sustainable peace is possible. The premise that persons of certain religious orientations have more value or should hold more rights within a nation than persons of other religious orientations is the antithesis of just and #BelovedCommunity.

  13. CW: On the growth of authoritarianism 🧵

The significance of this movement extends well beyond the borders of the #USA. What happens stateside rarely stays there. The potential for a thoroughgoing realignment of US allegiances and influence is mirrored by domestic resurgences of parallel #reactionary movements in many nations, many of them also drawing upon #ReligiousNationalism.

The temptation to bunker down or merely look away is pervasive. No one can do everything, nor are we expected to. But this might be a moment to consider afresh how we can nurture a world that is more open, just and respectful of #OurCommonHome.

  14. Not having to hear or see #Nethanyhu for the last couple of days was probably the best thing for him and for the Israelis. His proxies though are coming out from hiding. Listening to the Miki Zohar’s (מיקי זוהר), currently Minister of Culture and Sports, hot air, bravado and religious righteousness, Israelis might understand how bad it could be forced into a full blown war with the #Hamas, lead by the most incompetent government they’ve ever had. I’m pretty sure the Hamas took that into consideration when planing the attack.

  15. Oh, it's a Texas day isn't it?

The Texas Republican Senate has passed a bill that sets a requirement to prominently display a religious text (The 10 Commandments) in every public school classroom.

It will have to get by the Texas House (no problem) and Gov. Abbott will have to sign it when it reaches his desk (no problem).

Naturally, there's no such proclamation about religious law from Islam or Hinduism or... the Satanic Church...

If I was a teacher, know where I'd put it? 🗑️
