Surveillance State: Rehoboth using AI-powered cameras to track license plates
Last week, in response to growing concerns of unruly behavior, #RehobothBeach commissioners implemented an 11 p.m. #curfew for minors.
Now, and this time without input from commissioners or the public, the city has installed #Flock Safety license plate readers that use #artificialintelligence-powered technology to identify vehicles based on make, model, color and other details. The cameras, not much larger than a smart phone, are inconspicuous and not clearly marked.

Rehoboth Beach Icon Passes 😢
Allen "Al" Fasnacht, the owner of Funland amusement park in Rehoboth Beach, has died at the age of 96. Fasnacht was a beloved figure at the park, known for his kindness and dedication to creating a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. He worked at Funland for over six decades, starting in 1962 when his family bought the park.

Interesting Rehoboth Beach history
Royal Treat was our favorite breakfast venue.
The Royalton Hotel on Wilmington Avenue was once a popular place for family reunions and social gatherings.
Dating back to the early 1900s, the space was also known as the Rev. Morgan’s Boarding House and Thawley’s Hotel.
Owner Addison T. Thawley opened his hotel there in the early 1930s and operated it until the mid-1940s.
Later, it became home to the Royal Treat, which was demolished in January after 42 years in business.

#Delaware State Police are investigating the discovery of card-skimming devices at four #Wawa stores in #SussexCounty
The stores are located in the #RehobothBeach area, the #Lewes area and in #Millsboro. Anyone who used the self-checkout at these locations between August 31st and September 14th is advised to examine their bank accounts or credit card accounts for any fraudulent transactions.

Belhaven Hotel plan, set to transform Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, approved with conditions
The 92-room Belhaven is planned for one of the most valuable and visible pieces of real estate in "The Nation's Summer Capital," a 38,475-square-foot lot on the southern corner of Rehoboth Avenue and the boardwalk.
If the name “Belhaven” sounds familiar, it’s because the project is modeled after a hotel of the same name that existed in the same place until the great Storm of ‘62.

I recently purchased “Greetings from #Rehoboth Beach, Postcards from the Collection of The #RehobothBeachMuseum” (https://www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org) from Browseabout Books (https://www.browseaboutbooks.com) and upon reading immediately started wondering why we don’t still have #railroads to #RehobothBeach!
