As Europe debates the shape of post-2027 policies, one question looms large: how can we reconcile competitiveness with cohesion in an age of transition? Time to revisit place-based policymaking! Read our new blog post 👉 https://steady.page/en/spatialforesight/posts/196d7376-b120-40e2-8d52-d874a269e796
Regional disparities are widening — with many territories still trapped in cycles of low productivity, fiscal stress, and outmigration. Market forces alone are not correcting these divides; in fact, they are often deepening them.
This is where place-based policymaking comes in:
🔹 deliberate, spatially targeted interventions,
🔹 long-term transformation over marginal adjustment,
🔹 integration across sectors and governance levels,
🔹 and foresight capacity to future-proof decisions.
The lesson? Effective place-based policies are not “nice-to-haves” — they are vital tools for navigating systemic transitions, from climate neutrality to digitalisation. But they must be well-designed, properly resourced, and embedded in adaptive governance systems if they are to deliver real change.

Right, need to do redo the #introduction post for the new gaff.
