Brigadier General Alberto Murer was deported to Flossenbürg in September '44, together with 242 of his men, because of his links with the Resistenza. #OTD in 1944 a camp kapo broke his skull, killing him, because he was hiding 4 potatos. Only 2 of his men survived the camps #IMI #RegioEsercito #WarInItaly @histodons

#OTD in 1912, during the Italo-Turkish war, the Battle of Kars Ras el Leben ended with an Italian victory after 3 days of combats. The Ottomans suffered 1000 KIA and 1000 WIA vs 61 Italian KIA and 113 WIA. #RegioEsercito #MilHis

#OTD in 1943 Brigadier-General Giulio Martinat, Chief of Staff of the Corpo d'Armata Alpino (within ARMIR), was killed during the Battle of Nikolayevka. He was was leading his men out of the Soviet encirclement during Little Saturn when he was killed. 40 officers and thousands of soldiers died that day.

Italian surrender after the Battle of Amba Alagi, 17th of May '41.
They were granted Honours of War (notice the Italian troops carrying their weapons). Honours of War were granted again to the Italians in November '41 after the Battle of Culqualber, probably for last time in History.
