De trike reed via Cuijk (daar zag ik de fazanten op een muur van een flat) naar Haps dat ook ooit een station had want het lag aan het Duits Lijntje. Daar is niks meer van over behalve dan een seinpaal. Rondom Haps zie je nog wel de spoordijk liggen dat nu deels een wandelpad is #regel17

Nachtelijke rit met de Bulk. De IQ-XL lamp in de neus schakelt van dim- naar grootlicht. Bij droge weersomstandigheden heb ik hier ruim voldoende licht mee om met vertrouwen bijna even snel te fietsen als overdag. De legale fiets led lampen die niet verblinden hebben de laatste jaren een enorme ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. #regel17 #nachtfietsen

De trike reed een wisselvallig boodschappenrondje dat grotendeels door het bos ging. Leuk dat de heide bloeit, zo is een favoriet pauzeplekje nog fijner #regel17

Nach 3km habe ich beschlossen: Heute ist Bahntag. Müsste ich fahren, dann ginge es. Aber ich muss nicht. Etwas Erholung, etwas im Urlaub ankommen und die Kräfte dann lieber an schönen Tagen ohne stürmischen Gegenwind investieren. Insofern heute (fast) kein Radcontent. Sorry 🤷‍♂️

:boostplease: I need to ask for aid again.

I'm disabled, with no partner, no children, and little in-person community. I know everyone has a lot of needs right now and everyone's hurting. However, if you're able to spare something to help out,

- I have yet to pay off my mobility aid (which I desperately needed, doctor's orders).

- A fall last Dec worsened one of my disabilities and I'm trying to start PT again so I can get out of pain enough to sleep through the night.

-And my survival plan is getting into a PhD program and there are unfortunately costs involved with that.

I'm grateful to all who've helped me get this far with paying down the trike debt! 😚 My birthday is coming up soonish and having less debt would be GREAT.

First ride after tube replacement went well. I checked all the tire pressures. I knew some would need it because I checked the good front tire yesterday and it was down. And then my mini-compressor needed charging again before I could get to the desired pressure. But the one installed yesterday and pumped by hand by the mech was a bit low as well, and the rear one needed more.

Hard as rocks ride (I wish I could have afforded full suspension), but no flats!

Eine Runde an den #main bei #schwarzach mit dem Milan, immer parallel zur A3, über #schlüsselfeld , #geiselwind , #wiesentheid . In Unterfranken war ich dieses Jahr noch gar nicht.
Es war brutal heiß.
Mein Café in Schwarzach hat seit diesem Jahr leider geschlossen, die fränkische Hausmannskost nebenan wir mir definitiv zu viel. Also zur Tanke, dort alles besorgt und an den Main gesetzt.
Dort alles braun und trocken. Der Main hat Wasser.

Heute mit dem Milan durch das #aischtal den Kanal entlang nach #bamberg. Auf der Rückfahrt war erstmal noch alles gut, also über #forchheim nach #erlangen und dann wieder heim. Die letzten 20km waren dann aufgrund der Hitze und dem wirklich warmen Wind eher zäh 😔
Bin von normaler Cappy auf die neue Mütze umgestiegen, kein Sonnenbrand mehr auf den Ohren. Die Platte brennt auch weniger. 😁

Heute eine Runde zu dritt mit @s_masto und @radlpit . Durch das #aischtal den Kanal entlang nach #bamberg und @radlpit aufgegabelt. Zurück wieder gemütlich Kanal und noch eine kurze Pause für ein Eis.
Sehr zügig kam dann starker Wind auf und wir haben eilig zugesehen wieder heim zu kommen.

Feierabendrunde durch das #aischtal am Kanal nach #bamberg . Auf halben Hinweg von einem Freund mit ZOX Z Frame aufgegabelt worden, ab ging’s zu zweit weiter. Hinzu gemütlich, auf dem Rückweg dann über die Hauptstraße mit etwas Dampf. Lustig wars.
Eine größere Fläche am Kanal wurde geflutet, jede Menge Vögel in der Abendsonne. Typisch für hier, viele #storche .
Zur Stärkung lecker Butterbrot mit #gurken aus dem Garten.

I've been working on a secret project this month. 20 years ago I lived in the UK and decided I had to go on one epic bike ride before leaving the country so in July 2006 I cycled from Land's End to John o'Groats - the length of the country from the furthest South-West point to the furthest North-East. The route that I took was just over 1700 km and it took ten days of cycling. It was fun, but also quite dangerous. A lot of those km were on A-roads, some of them on dual carriageways which are motorway standard except that they lack a safe hard shoulder to pull over onto. In all honesty, I can't really recommend it.

Anyway, the secret project this month was to ride the distance of LEJOG while doing all the usual things that I do each month. I decided on 1407 km as the target as that's the shortest possible LEJOG route. No need to push myself too hard this time.

I only thought of this idea in the second week of July. I'd made a good start with the 200 km ride that we did on the first Sunday of the month, but I'd also had a couple of relatively lazy days so I had fallen behind the ~45 km a day required to finish the distance in 31 days but not by much (I told you it'd be relatively relaxed).

Am Montag gab es ein gemeinsames Treffen zum Mittagessen in Stadelhofen in der #fraenkischenschweiz . Zu 10 sind wir eingeflogen, bunte Mischung aus #velomobil en, #recumbenttrike und #liegerad .
Gestartet zu dritt über #forchheim , #ebermannstadt das Tal hinauf über #heiligenstadt auf den Nebenstraßen, zurück dann zu viert.
Es war herrlich, aber auch sehr heiß.
Kaffeestopp musste aber dennoch sein, frei nach @radlpit integraler Bestandteil und nicht verhandelbar, gut so!

Diese Woche mit #Velomobilen für abendliche Brotzeit nach #Hirschaid bei #Bamberg geradelt. Ich wohnte eine Zeit lang in #Herscheid. Nicht nur die Namen ähneln sich, sondern auch die Wappen.

Auf dem Heimweg #Radfahrer im Stealth Modus. Immerhin mit weißen Schuhen. Waren langsam unterwegs und Rechtskurve ist eher unproblematisch. Dennoch nerven und gefährden Unbeleuchtete enorm. Dabei ist es heute so einfach, sein Fahrrad ausreichend zu beleuchten.

This afternoon's bike trip was a 37 km round trip in one hour and ten minutes to collect a 20 kg sack of "greensand" olivine for the garden.

I think it's a good example of the efficiency of velomobiles: how they make human power even more effective than when riding a normal bike. Even on the return journey with a headwind and loaded with the sack of sand, it was easy to keep the speed above 35 km/h.

Being able to stow a lot of things inside the aerodynamic form of the bike helps a lot with efficiency. You feel extra weight when accelerating, not so much once you get going.

And why the olivine ? I calculated a few weeks back that in the worst case this last winter our heating could have emitted 105 kg of CO2. This sack is enough to absorb about a fifth of that amount from the atmosphere.

Each time we plant things indoors or in our garden we add a bit of olivine.

Once humanity (especially those of us in the highly emitting richer countries) has reduced emissions by a lot, it's possible to make a bit of a dent by using a product like this. But there's no chance of compensating for ever larger emissions by trying to mine ever larger amounts of olivine.

[2/2] Da ich die Kamera sowieso immer per externer Powerbank mit Strom versorge: Batterie raus, sichere Kabelführung dran. Das spart 29 Gramm an der Kamera. Und weniger Masse heißt auch weniger Belastung für die Halterung.
