Last night I spotted this little gas canister at the top of our stairs, refrigerant for some of our chillers or heat pumps on the roof. 21 kg of R-410a. Read the label: 44 tonnes of CO2e . One false move by an installer, or slow leaks and it’s released - the equivalent of 30 return trips to Vancouver in a canister that barely reaches my knee.
We have natural refrigerants like CO2 and propane. Time to choose/switch!! #GWP #climatechange #refrigerant -

Thanks to stupid #EU regulations, the Non-Flammable R134a refrigerant is now replaced with R1234yf #refrigerant which is flammable and has lower cooling performance.
I guess, fuck you in the hot Equator summer because of 'Global Warming'#euregulations #climatechange #hvac #cars #airconditioning #globalwarming

1st heat pump clothes dryer contender: the Whirlpool WHD560CHW.
Pros:
- 7.4 cu. ft. capacity, most heat pump dryers are smaller around 4 ft^3
- My parents bought one on my recommendation and like itCons:
- 240V
- I can't find what refrigerant it uses, so it's probably awful -

If anyone with HVAC expertise knows the consequences of mixing refrigerants (R-22 and R-410A), please reach out to me. I think this maintenance guy just did a bad thing.
It's not the only bad thing, mind you. I'm documenting some other stuff.

Did you know that #CO2 can be used as a #refrigerant gas in #heatPumps? And that it's very efficient at it.
It requires significantly higher pressures than typical refrigerants gas but it doesn't require a chemical plan to fiddle with fluorinated products, and that seems to be a huge plus. Also, it is cheap, guaranteed not to have any undesirable effect we might discover later, non-flammable, non-toxic and has a GWP of 1.With a COP above 3, the global #efficiency of a combined-cycle methane power plant + transmission loss + point of use COP gives a higher efficiency than burning the methane directly even in the best furnace money can buy.
And we know very well how to store hot water, so spreading daily peak heat demand without massive *electricity* storage is much more feasible. -
