" 'If you go to a bar in the countryside, you know, a little restaurant, out the back there’ll be a rubbish pile full of disused bottle crates,' Elliott says. 'You can [also] go down to the #recycling shop and buy them really cheaply.'
"Each bottle crate fits about 12 bags with saplings, and the structure creates a gap of 2 centimeters (nearly an inch) at the bottom. The researchers wondered if this gap would be enough to create air circulation for air pruning.
"To test the idea, they raised saplings of five native tree species using three different methods: in crates placed directly on the ground; in crates placed on wire benches (for improved air flow); and the conventional method of a polyurethane bag on the ground. They then planted the saplings in a deforested site within #PraBangKhram #WildlifeSanctuary in southern Thailand."

It's widely reported that #China has been building out huge amounts of #solar photovoltaic generation, and of course that is a big contributor to slowing #ClimateChange. But what I discovered to my surprise this week is that China is also #Reforesting faster than almost anywhere else on Earth, which is an equally important contributor, and also contributes positively to the #Oxygen cycle.

Big #energy firms might line the pockets of shareholders with their profits, but a community #windfarm in #Scotland ploughs its returns into #reforesting barren sites across the #OuterHebrides.
They’re about a quarter of the way to planting one million trees, which they hope to achieve by 2030, restoring a landscape which existed a thousand years ago.
Three tree nurseries have been created to grow native species with funding coming from the UK’s largest community owned wind farm which makes a reported profit of £900,000 a year.
