Old thatch from a friends (admittedly quite degraded) roof thatch repair.
Great for the compost heap!
Allows aeration & thatch straw is organic!
The sprays used by farmers on straw to prevent mould etc actually speed up its degredation when used on rooves.

Helped my friend get rid of some of the waste and to me financial cost zero!

Guys, I am beside myself. Not only do those phones come with an operating system that's independent of Google, you can also buy spare parts for your phone. Swap the battery. Replace the camera.

Chtěl by někdo ne úplně zdravý 8 TB SAS disk?

#reduce_reuse_recycle

Anyone around the Inner West have a USB Micro-B cable (the old standard feature-phone charging cables) they don't want? Needs a relatively slim form factor plug to fit a Wonderboom 2 to charge it.

My last remaining Micro-B is in storage that I can't get to and I can't bear to be the cause of yet another one being brought into the universe.

As a porridge family we eat a lot of honey. Only buy the glass jars as they can be recycled. But, they also make really cool glasses for drinks.

Just set up an Acer Chromebook I bought at a garage sale ($7) to run radio feeds for Watch Duty, LOL. Loaded it with Debian, instead of the no-longer-supported-Google-stuff #reduce_reuse_recycle

"Plastic bins: better than boxes"

I remember a nice "service" our local grocery store used to provide the community. They would "hold" and not break down the better cardboard boxes they had received in case one of us customers might need them for moving. Sometimes you'd have to find the guy in the back and ask him to do this. Never had them say no. Way better than using new boxes and probably better than anything plastic!

I retired my 15 year old #Ubuntu LTS #laptop when I bought a 10 year old refurbished #Dell Optiplex 9020 with a #Nvidia #Geoforce 1050 Ti #GPU, so I can experiment with #GenAI, #MachineLearning and #LLM.

P. S. Yes I loaded #Linux on the Dell.

Much of the material used to make paper towels comes from Canadian boreal #forests.
Consider switching to cloth - cloth rags do a better job of mopping up spills, etc.

The same resources probably go into toilet paper too -- and there are reusable cloth pee-wipe alternatives for this that can #reduce overall use of TP.

I bought a $0.50 book today: country woodcraft by drew langsner. I'm only 20 pg in, but he's spent a great deal of time covering the uses for bits of wood that are commonly discarded (roots, bark, twigs).
I love this thorough use of materials! #reduce_reuse_recycle #woodwork #oldways

@CelloMomOnCars @Streetsweeper @breadandcircuses and what we really need to start discussing is how we can provide for that "23% "Other" category" with minimal continued fossil C extraction.

Is there enough available biomass or will we devastate natural ecosystems if we say "oh, we can use nature based materials"?

Can we use CCSU strategies to process DAC captured CO2 to useful feedstock for that other?

Can we change our consumption of goods, and look at a closed loop system of reuse/recycle/ reprocess?

Who's working on this?

Irish consumers generated 11 million kg of #electronic #waste last year - equivalent to 25 million items containing precious and valuable #metals.

This so-called "invisible e-waste" included electronic toys, vapes, cables, remote controls, and USB sticks. The recoverable raw materials contained within those items are worth an estimated $10 billion.

You can #recycle anything with a plug, battery or cable!
