The Jinpo dance is going viral on RedNote. Partly, I think, because a lot of Chinese dance (at least in my corner of the app) is kinda' gentle. This one has more attitude.
And abs. The abs difinitely helps.

RedNote's algorithm threw a clip called "Chinese Florida" at me. I'm a tad sorry I didn't look up _where_ this place is*, but I was too distracted by gloryosities** like this.

They moved the user data of all foreign XHS users to Singapore.
Fortunately they didn't split the userbase.

in rednote's Privacy Policy: "This is to make our Platform and Xiaohongshu Platform one community for users."

I remember checking out #rednote when it was big and the trending tab was filled with Family Guy clips dubbed in Mandarin.

Maybe I should elaborate why I'm such a fan of #rednote (#xiaohongshu, chinese instagram basically) and #upscrolled (basically antiimperialist instagram).
They both are not open source and I dont know to what extend my data is used without my consent. Upscrolled claims to not use it at all. I dont have a reason to believe them or not to.
Why then do I frequent them?
Easy: its because they provide non white, non western perspective. It helps you see the selective empathy on mastodon.

i usually see china content.
now i see english/USA content more often.noticed this part in their Privacy Policy pages:
the user data of new foreign Rednote users after 12/8/2025 is in Singapore, not China.

Out of 5 Chinese social apps checked on 15 privacy factors, RedNote the only one to fail on all 15 out of 15.
EDIT: To be clear, I have Rednote, but I made sure to use the app Shelter to install it in a separate profile on my Android phone to stop it from completely destroying my privacy

Chinese #RedNote have released a new AI based moderation algorithm and it is permanently banning 1000s of genocide protesters without giving any reason.
I was one of those and when I tried to create a new one, it was immediately flagged after posting some new items and 10 minutes later it was blocked "waiting for real name verification", but it only accepts Chinese IDs.
It seems like #china is walking in the footsteps of #TikTok protecting Israel.

Guy - Zhangzhou Hokkien, older lady - Xiamen Hokkien. Kid - Mandarin (though learning from both!)
100% understand the guy! It's so comforting to know I can be understood in one part of China 😆. Apparently the Hokkien I speak is from Zhangzhou.
Tho I noticed they do use different words for somethings. Penang Hokkien has lots of loan words from English and Malay 😅

It's interesting the guy doesn't like Iranian rice. Unlike the Asian style rice, Iranian basmati is very dry and have a lot of butter when served with Kabab (lamb, chopped meat or steak).

In other news, my 50 odd year old poem was selected as a finalist in the RedNote 'Around the World in One Day' contest. It may be insignificant to anyone who doesn't know RedNote but I think the fact that they offered me air flight tickets and accommodation is pretty significant. They asked me to enter and somehow they thought one of my poems was 1 of 6 finalists. Kind of exciting for this old guy.
