I've been a bit quiet again, but back to share some art I completed 2025 for my patron's print rewards. This one is based on the Red Admiral butterfly - I want to make more butterfly characters when I have time :)

I'll add the leftover prints to my shop as soon as that's up and running again - they have a nice pearlecent sheen.

We had a blast of summer yesterday, & with it an influx of butterflies into our garden. I was excited to see the only Painted Lady this year, & a Red Admiral - both species Vanessa. I got my phone out & got a quick shot. But when Iooked at the photo the Painted Lady isn’t there! The butterfly here is definitely a Comma!? Maybe the Painted Lady flew off seconds before I pointed my camera?

My daily lepidopterological (is that a new word?) activities are truly picking up, as of yesterday.

The garden has been buzzing this week since we got back from holiday. Bees buzzing in great numbers of course. But more butterflies than we’ve seen all the year. Especially numerous are Red Admirals almost dancing in flight!

today was a #bugs and birds day in the garden! i've been taking part in the #bigbutterflycount so it was great to see three species today - a red admiral, meadow brown, and a large white butterfly (which flew too quickly to get a decent picture of!) i also spotted a #forficula #earwig and a load of #bumblebees enjoying the clovers in the sun ☀️

This stunning Red Admiral Butterfly kept me company for hours while I worked in my community garden plot a few days ago. They spent the whole time flitting about the echinacea aka coneflowers.

The Echinacea 'Warm Summer' cultivar in the photo is a hybrid of the classic purple coneflower, echinacea purpurea. I always recommend growing the classic for medicinal purposes, and the hybrids as ornamentals.

Its genus ‘Vanessa’ is a group of brush-footed butterflies. Like so many first classified & named by the entomologist Fabricius, ‘Atalanta’ is taken from ancient Greek mythology, a fleet-footed princess.
